Argh my TGM strat has fret buzz all over again. 2 weeks back, sent it to Guitar Workshop to solve the problem, then it was ok. Then like this week, the problem happened again! I dun feel like sending it back to the shop for fear I`ve gotta shell out $50...can anybody help me recommend good repair shops or can anyone here do it for less?

Thanx

hmm...must be yr action...i dunno maybe u have to modify and replace yr current bridge or saddles ( i could be wrong ) with better ones.

If you have just done up your guitar by guitar workshop 2weeks ago, you can try to bring it back to them again. Find the person who tended to you and see if he can help you.

Your case sound like your neck may not be seated properly, unless you try to adjust yourself, then you got yourself to blame. Else let them look into it.

Well... it still buzzed after their set-up.. so you shouldnt worry.
They din fix your axe to playing condition, just ask them politely to do it right this time.

cos you know... strats have that spring thing... it might take a while for the real tension to set in. and also if for the set-up they give you new strings, it might take some time for the strings to set in also.. yeah so shrugs. this kinda thing is very common.

$50 for a fret job! Seriously this is unheard of. Fret jobs will typically start from $80. Yes the guitar only costs so much, but why did you have cost savings in the first place? Because, the fret job wasn't done at the factory. The kind of work for a fret job requires an experienced eye/hand and someone who obviously has an understanding of what's going on.

Somehow in this part of the world, we want rolls royce standards with 'sungei' pricing. I'm not being harsh but if you find it expensive, go to www.stewmac.com and find out how much a basic fret dressing kit costs. Spending money for a piece of mind is a good thing, unless you really have the desire and screw up a few instruments to become good at it. You pay for expertise, simple as that.

Dude I think he brought the guitar there for a basic set up job and not fret works...

But with that said, a cheap Strat copy will always have some kind of prob somewhere IMO, be it with fret/body work or the electronics..

You see, you've got to understand that sometimes when people send their instruments for repair, they are not willing to spend and yet expect the problem to go away after spending a miserly amount. Guitar workshop might have adviced a fret level for say 80-100 bux for all I know. However, the customer may not have been willing to spend that amount hence it became a 'set up' job.

Again, I'm guessing and not stating for fact. My main point is, you've got to pay for expertise. Even 50 bux for a set up is very reasonable. Want it for less? Google it, read books, and lots of practice. By the time you get there, you'll know why people charge a certain fee for certain things.

Setting up should be something every guitarist should know. Its like a soldier who does not know how to strip his weapon, assembling it and set up his weapon. You must at least know the basic. For major repair, you probably need expert.

It is really easy to do. Just read those guides and you more or less will get the idea. For fret buzz, it could be due to low action (for 7 fret onwards), neck relief (7 fret and lower), uneven fret due to fret wear, neck angle.

If I can help it, I trust my work better. Try learning if you do not want to pay $50 for just a basic setup. Imagine, when you can another type of strings you also need to pay.

That's probably the best illustration... :smt041

Hi guys, anyone knows where I could get a total refret for my electric guitar? What kinda price range am I looking at?

Also, since it'll be a total refret, I guess a new custom nut would match it better? Again, the cost and whom should I approach?

Thanks!

I'm available for set ups and fret jobs. Be warned, I do quality work with prices to match. e-mail for quotes at empty71 at hotmail dot com
