A bit confused.. :? lol
Is it possible to replace a strat trem with a floyd rose?
Will anything be affected?
Where to buy original floyd rose here in SG?
Where can i get someone to help me fix the floyd rose? How much?

Yes.
You need to route and drill.
Yes - look around.
Any guitar tech - check Davis, Guitar 77, Guitar Connection, Guitar Workshop, etc and ask for their prices.

ok thx for the info .. i'll go and check one day.
btw did any of you guys replace your strat trem with floyd rose?

Actually, I have never seen an OFR dealer here in Singapore.

You prob have to look at importing a unit from overseas.

I did. out of curiosity. listen to my horror story

I went to this shop to ask if I could add a floyd rose to this guitar without spending too much. that fella had one strat type guitar hanging around. therefore, he asked me if I wanted to switch bodies with it since he said that routing is a risky process. after all, he said that he'd have to bring to some furniture store to rout it.

since he was only charging me $150 for the whole process, I was like why not? back then, I had no idea that different wood = different tone.

not only did I swap an ash body for a poplar body ( BIG difference in tone ), the FR trem was even more unstable than the previous fixed bridge trem. I swear never to go to that store ever again. paying $150 to destroy your beloved axe? what the hell? I never felt so ripped off.

guess what? I ended up wasting close to a thousand dollars just because I wanted to get back my old strat so badly. I regret every decision I made back then :(.

do think twice about adding a floyd rose to a strat. yeah it seems cool but its not going to be cheap if you are serious about it. routing costs around a hundred. a good trem ( ala schaller ) doesnt come cheap ( around $350 I suppose ).

IMO, I rather you get a guitar that is equipped with a good & stable floyd rose trem. furthermore, single coils arnt really good for high gain. I'm sure you want a FR to play around with harmonics right? well, I did  . I would rather have a guitar with humbuckers.

then again, there are some fender fat strats with OFR. you might wanna consider changing it to a schaller. maybe swap out the pickups as well while you are at it :)

the bottomline is, get a stable FR trem. be prepared to spend a lot of dough though ( ignore the pun ). trust me, you wouldnt regret it.

Nice story :D ..i mean bad story :(

but how sure are you that it was Poplar ?? :?

...there are lots claiming Poplar but it might even be plywood under that paint work !!

Parker used Poplar recently ..check here

DONT DO IT

i did it to my 1995 mex strat.. .costed me a bomb but thats not the worst thing... im not sure if the routing was abit off or the string spacing is just wider, but the high E string got closer to the edge of the neck until it was almost impossible to play a high note without it coming off the edge. i spoiled my very 1st guitar.. luckily it was a mex strat... if u want a FR get an ibanez or a strat with one built in....

easiest thing is for you to get a strat that's already fitted with an FR. I had a Richie Sambora sig with an FR, works fine and well.

Should you still wish to persue it, please, in line with relinquish69's account, find a reliable guitar tech to do it for you, Thats really TOPS.

i got my MIM fender strat with FR from swee lee at the mid year sale.. you could consider getting it instead of taking the risk of destroying ur current guitar. only thing is that it's in HSS configuration.

And its not a recessed trem, meaning, it doesn't pull up much if at all.

... oh ok. but are there any strats already with recessed FR trem on sale :P ? if not do any of you guys know any trustworthy place or person where i can get a strat fitted with FR properly without any problems?

let me caution you that routing a body is an irreversible process. if you like the way your guitar sounds, I suggest you leave it as it is.

besides, with the money you spend on routing and all the setups, you can easily purchase a guitar that is already fitted with a good FR trem.

well, the decision is yours ultimately. do what you think is best for yourself.

Haha, best is just get an Ibanez Jem. It has one of the most deep routed cavities i've ever seen. lol. 8)
