For Bored Soft-ies!!! A Random But Moral-Ful Question! :)

honestly speaking,

i would rather someone say,

"His equipment don't do justice to his playing".
rather than
"His playing don't do justice to his equipment".

haha. musicians make music out of everything~ it aint the price, it's about sounding nice!

my verdict.

and thats where all the sponsor deals start swooping in to bring justice to his skills :D

Well, when i was still a beginner at first i was surprised when i upgraded my TGM acoustic to an Epiphone, so much difference on the sound. But, still my playing stays the same, it's just that the epiphone made tones more beautiful.

In my opinion, the player holds the power over his instruments, His style, his techniques and his talent is what that matters. Be it an SX, TGM, Gibson, Epi, he plays well, whatever shit he uses suddenly turns out to be great itself. These low-end guitars are great starters and you can buy a high end Sx for e.g. for the price of a low end epi. So, play what you want do what you do, It's all up to the musician.

I have seen many times guitarists/bassists carrying uber long pedaltrains:confused:, and even though they may look professional, their music don't do any justice to their gear.

Although wicked-looking gear makes a good first impression to the crowd and make them go 'Wah seh that guy got some gibby hot rod, we're in for a good show!' , but I'm sure they are able to distinguish good and bad music once the performance begins.

At times I wish these show-off bands would just disappear and let REAL musicians perform, who are able to express their feelings through the music they play. But that doesn't seem to be the case!

i think is all about whether your enjoying it or not. it doesn't necessary mean that in a band, we have to have top end equipments to be good , is just fluanting your wealth , those are my thoughts. A musician's job is to express music through his/her heart to the audience not letting the instrument do the job for the musician. So i say john should so do the gig. at the end of the day letting the audience enjoy your music is your top pirority . :D

whatever u guys say, u still dont see your guitar heros on stage with an SX or TGM or Kapok because they choose to, do you?

It's because they're endorsers, they're paid to do it. If they go out with some random guitar brand and not the one they're supposed to endorse, they'll get sued.

But if you read their bios, almost all of them start of with kapok guitars and copy guitars. So we must remain true to our instruments.

yes, my point is, there is still the preference for the branded guitars. if i'm not wrong, Slash's favourite guitar is a gibson les paul copy. why did he not rather get endorsed by that said guitar maker? is he not staying true? start with kapok, end with fender/gibson? ok maybe its the tone. oh whatthehey.

When I was in secondary school, i used my samick SG which I don't use already, super bad condition now. People kept coming up to me asking if its a gibson, and after I played on stage, someone started writing about me saying I play on such a cheapo or budget guitar or something like that. Can't really remember. But I just did it again the next year, couldn't care less!

JUST PLAY with what you've got. :D

The writer must really have nothing to write about.

Like the others have mentioned, the gear does NOT make the musician. Its about his playing. If some guy plugged into a deemed to be pathetic solid state amp with an SX strat in his hand manages to pull off amazing pieces with not necessarily the best tone, i nevertheless would be impressed.

Also already mentioned, i too would rather have people say that my equipment aint doing me justice rather than vice versa.

Have you heard the complains about the Jonas Bros that they can afford Gibson customs yet their music harms people?

Then again you cant do shit because they can afford it and have tons of fan girls waiting to slip those virginity rings off their hands.

So moral of the story: The gear does not matter. Some people can play like virtuosos but simply cannot afford good gear. Some people cannot play but simply CAN afford good gear.

All in all: Just work with what you have. Your aim is to make music.

agreed. its like how everyone knows that creative's mp3s are of better sound quality, its value for money but still u see people using and buying more i pods than creative mp3s.. its all about the brand and bragging rights...and sometimes endorsement deals as well.

Haha i expected ur post was abt slash, cos my reply was somewhat similar to that matters. The Guns n' Roses manager actually got him a gibson les paul studio whenever slash needed the right sounds during the times of recording... So maybe when Guns n' Roses became bigger, gibson already had their eyes on Slash. Which we can still witness until now.

Similarly to Angus Young's SG which was a guitar from a random guitar shop (I think) customized to his standards, but gibson caught him and started doing replicas of it therefore he became an endorser. And Eddie Vanhalen's frankensrat which was hand built and fender made a replica out of it, and kramer and peavey got their eyes on him next.
