Flying Dragon

Original plan is to get an RC booster again after selling mine to a G4C bro until I tried this. For those who might be interested on how i find this pedal, here's my post at TGP:
---------------
After 3 weeks since i posted i finally got the Flying Dragon from Empty71. All i can say is i'm extremely satisfied how it blends with my sound. Bigger and meaner, but no additional EQing being added from the FD and most importantly for me, no compression. I'm stacking it with a Catalinbread DLS and it's like an additional gain range for the DLS. It didn't alter the tone or dynamics of the DLS but gave it more sustain and body.

You guys were right that it certainly is different from just turning up the volume on my amp. It has a very natural response just like a good tube amp but i don't need to adjust the EQ(reducing treble and increasing mids) so i get to keep my tone intact.

To Steve Miller, thanks for coming up with great design, your pedal certainly made things easier for me now.

this is EXACTLY how i feel abt my catalinbread super chili piccoso. had any experiences with it?? i've heard alot of great things abt lizard leg pedals.

I have tried the Chili picoso and it's got more output. But honestly it also gives off a little sheen/gloss to the overall sound and using the bass switch on it isn't my kind of thing as it tends to be very bassy and I don't want to get in the way of bass players in a band setting. With the bass switch off, it tends to sound and feel quite hollow/tubby on the bass strings and the treble strings turn plinky. By plinky, i mean that kind of clean that comes with telecasters when they are on the bridge settings. It's not ice pick clean but nonetheless still noticeably brighter than what it used to be.

I just want my base sound(Marshall-y most of the time for dirt) to get bigger not brighter, bassier, or more middy. I want at least a subjective 95% exactness of what I am hearing with the booster off, but louder and with more sustain. I was resigned to the fact that boosters really add hi-fi-ness whatever you do until I heard the Flying Dragon.

I agree with Edgie. This is one really CLEAN boost that... its pretty darn near transparent. It doesn't add compression too, something I thought was really cool. It also functions as a terrific buffer, very natural sounding.

Not really as I can feel the compression, but the more transparent ones like the boost side of BOR and Chili picoso don't have control for volume and gain so I'm just favoring flexibility over transparency then.

Ya know before i got my analogman modded maxon od9 i was considering an RC booster too.

I did come across the flying dragon but knew nuts about lizard leg products. Neither could anyone pass up useful information. Thus i gave it a pass. Such a review makes me tempted to try out one.. :D

I thnk you can always try it out at malcom's place at bedok. Just be careful coz he's got other GAS-inducing stuff there. You might get more than what you're looking for. haha.

Phil, we'll see how tough those shields are once you start desiring to push those awesome tones from the DLS further. ;p

Bump for the Lizard Leg Flying Dragon!!! One of the best boost on the planet :D

Have you tried the FD before?

Anyway I did a search on the Serrano and your old old post in TGP came up in the results.

So I assume the Boosty is a good replacement for your old Serrano?

I have never
owned or even heard how other boost pedals sound – I had
no pre-conceived notions of what it “should” sound like.-

yeah....the serrano colored the tone of my 7th heaven (im using it as a post-gain solo cut through the mix boost) big time and it seemed to shave off alot of bass and accentuate the highs a tad too much. Not to mention my solos did not have that intended "cut" which even my old 6 band eq did better.

The boosty solved all this and its so musically tasty and transparent - you can ask Shredcow...even when i forget to tweak the boosty and i accidentally boost a tad too much it dosent overpower the entire band but it still cuts through the mix like a hot knife through butter. Its gain and volume controls as well as a treble and bass control lets you shape the tone without muddying up the mids a la the RC Booster and it made the RC booster look like a piece of crap next to it.

Overall, my second most important pedal on the board - thanks Goose! :D

I have not tried the flying dragon but my boosty has ended my search for THE boost pedal. Would be interesting to see how both pedals fare against each other and whether the FD lives up to the hype.

Does goose still produce the boosty? My impression was that he stopped alr...

EDIT: just checked the webby...it still lives!!
