where is a good place to look for moderate to good licensed floyd rose and doesnt burn a big hole in my pocket...prefably around 100-200

with regards to licensed floyd rose trems, I would say just get the best there is. yes they may burn a hole in your pocket but it is most definitely worth it. save another $100 - $200 more for a good licensed FR trems like Gotoh or Schaller. or just get those old Ibanez guitars with lo-pro or edge FR trems. they are affordable guitars in general, I think.

it defeats the purpose of having a FR trem in your guitar if it cant stay in tune for a long period of time IMO. what if your guitar goes all out of tune during a live gig? what would you do? do the Santana thing and switch to an acoustic? no way right  ?

even if you are a bedroom guitarist, it gets really frustrating to keep turning the fine tuners just to get the guitar back in tune so very often. please stay away from those trems that are around $100, one dive and your guitar is totally out of tune :? .

if you are looking for a place that sells trems, there is Davis and Guitar Connection & maybe even Ranking Sports.

relinquish is right. burnt pocket is better than tuning-unstable guitar. the gotohs a good choice. the edge too, but causes a bigger hole.

Gotta note, the Schallers are a little "fragile" if you are getting those without the steel inserts in the baseplate.

The baseplate of a Schaller trem isn't hardened steel, its softer, so it has a different tone - nice - but you screw ur saddles into the baseplate right? You CAN strip the base plate if you tighten too much. And you need the screws to be tight or ur saddles will move and intonation gone. Not a VERY big deal if u know what ur doing but you can imagine.... if u strip it, there goes the whole trem.

Anyway, Schallers are like $375.

actually i have modded a schaller trem with stripped holes.
this was on a '89 charvel that was fluorescent orange, i dont miss the guitar just the color :P
anyway, was done simply by placing roughly a 2mm thick, 1cm long and as wide as the 6 saddles, piece of brass under the trem where the holes are.
then of cos drill new saddle mounting holes on the brass plate and fix it in place with superglue.
of cos then you will need longer saddle screw holders as the originals will not reach the brass.
needless to say, it works just as good as new.

total cost? definitely way way way less than buying a brand new schaller trem.

as for floyd rose, a cheaper alternative is the Ping floyd rose.
its the only licensed trem that has the floyd rose logo.
Ping are also the ones who make the tuners on MIM strats, so guess they're owned by fender, who of cos owns floyd rose :P

the giveaway is the logo on the right side.

hows the floyd rose at davis?

We have already told you what is good. Please don't go scrimping on this.

Sure there are cheap licensed ones out there that fare well, go ahead, try them, then come back and tell us so.

Note that most who do, never come back with their "positive" reports.

Maybe he is not shooting you down
but just telling you that the good ones are already listed above
Do not want to spell out to clearly that shops mentioned
is carrying lesser quality floyd rose ( aka crap )

Kahler is also good too
but do not know if you can still get their Floyd style tremolo

ok my bad than but i misintepreted it sorry but ppl cld b more helpful

man, I'm offended. I did my best trying to help you know :? .

when it comes to FR trems, listen to Shredcow. he is very experienced with FR trems. his words may be blunt but its really for your own good.

there are some Schaller FR trems at GC. they are good trems, you might want to ask Kelvin for the prices.

okok sorry but it is not within my budget...mayb u guys can giv me some more recommendations within my budget unless there really isnt a good one to b found than i wldnt mind savin for the schaller...in sg where to buy gotoh?which is better gotoh or schaller?

no hard feelings :).

I think you might have to order online to get gotoh trems. as for schaller, Kelvin has a few at the store. I personally have no experience with these trems but they are some of the best licensed trems around. just read all the raving reviews on soft.

you might want to read up on the pros and cons on the trems that you are interested in getting. like Shredcow mentioned previously, schallers are stable but complicated and stuff. I personally have no idea  .

I only use Ibanez FR trems ( cos they come with the guitar  ) and I like them very very much.

well basically if you want a good FR trem at the price range of $100 - $200, try looking at the 2nd hand market. first hand, not many options. maybe other softies could provide some information regarding stores that sell FR trems? cos those stores that I've mentioned above are the only few that I know of.

i have the Ping Floyd Rose on my MIM Strat, and it seems stable enough.. strings stay in tune after a fair bit of whammy stuff.. only problem is that the trem bar doesn't seem to fit snugly in its hole.. sort of rattles around when i push down or pull up on it even though i've tightened the threads to the maximum..
