hey ppl out there... for those who actually hav experience on this, can i hav an expert opinion on how the epiphone firebird VII differs from the gibson version other then the brand or where its made? Do their tones differ? Pickups the same? Is the epiphone's inlays also mother of pearl? etc

pls tell me difference as im considering getting either one of them, but i donno if i should pay the extra cash jus for the gibson; dono if that cash is worth the quality difference

thanks in advance

hey man hope this helps:
1) the main diff between the epi firebird and the gibson is that the gibby is a neck-thru design, meaning the neck and body are one-piece of wood, then the rest of the body is two wings that are glued on the main central section. the epi is a set neck like any other ordinary guitar.

2) what this means is that the gibby will have better sustain (which is not v impt to me as the improvement is slight, only the owner or anyone who has played the guitar extensively will be able to tell.) whats more important is that the firebird has mini-humbuckers, which are very bright pickups and the neck thru design keeps the singing highs that firebirds are known for, but also gives a solid fat warm and middy tone. play both side by side if you ever have the chance and the diff between the epi and the gibby is like night and day.

3) the hardware on the gibby is better. eg. the nut on the epi is plastic, gibby is bone. pots are better, the switch is definitely much better and reliable and the bridge and tailpiece are chrome on the epi but nickel on the gibby.

does this justify the diff in price? only you can answer that man cos i know people who actually prefer the epi firebird to the gibby. i have owned both and i can safely say that to me the gibby was a better sounding and playing guitar, but i ended up changing the pickups on it anyway, and then the gibby firebird really became a monster! unbeleiveable sweet singing tone! endless sutsain! still...its a BIG diff in price, eh?

ehh actually production gibbys have plastic nuts too. the only obne u will see are on Custom Shop and even then im not too sure if they have bone on the custom shop ones.

hmm thanks for the advice ugly funk... yep now that uve mentioned it i think that its is worth the money to go for the gibby... but jus one thing, how good its is playability? fret access? how heavy it is?

i saw this guy on youtube.. kicking some serious ass with his firebird...
is there firebirds in swee lee?

definitely a guitar i will wanna own in the future... a gibson ofcourse...

hey man,
its a heavy guitar babe. dont expect ibanez weight, yah? it tends to be a bit neck heavy also in that the long headstok causes it to slide forward on the strap if your strap is made of a smooth material. fret access is ok lah, if its set up well it'll be nice to play but honestly, i went for one cos it looked cool and sounded really diff and sizzly yet had gibson fatness. playing wise, i defi nitely prefer my les pauls. i didnt know the nuts on gibbys were plastic man, shit better go n check my guitars thanks for the headsup!

eh chanmin, is the guy on youtube warren haynes? is he playing a firebird non-reverse with the p90s? wah lan that is a fucking rocking clip man if i could sing and play like that at the same time i would quit my dayjob in a heartbeat! basket the firebird he plays is also nicer than mine lah mine is just the ordinary reissue with the mini-hums...

lol uglyfunk u dont like ur firebird sell me cheap la lol, its a firebird VII with gold hardware and in metallic red finish rite?

yah, i think the song he's playing is called bad little doggy. non-reverse bird, red finish, gold hardware n black p90s. went to check its some mid60s model haha chanmin if you got that firebird i'll trade my ordinary reissue with that any day...
