Ferrari dirver bashed up in malaysia. i'll be blunt here..

Softies, no need to take such umbrage over the original post lah. The way I see it, the TS is not a troll. He was presenting a point of view and he didn't do it with harsh language. Whether the discussion degenerates into flaming is as much up to us as well as him (online, it's always better to have a thicker skin, milder voice, and slower responses IMO). My reactions:

1. If we didn't have this thread, we might have lost the opportunity to see how other folks view people from Singapore. It's just feedback. If you think it's valid, let's see how things can change. If not, we can offer up counter-arguments. At least, we learn how to be sensitive to things around us, wherever we are.

2. This whole issue has nothing to do with whether people are traveling in a convoy, or how fast they are driving. It's a criminal act, pure and simple.

3. Robbers are equal-opportunity "entrepreneurs" - they target expensive cars, whether they are owned by Malaysians or Singaporeans. The fact is, Singaporeans or people from Singapore drive more expensive cars than anyone else on Malaysian roads. Result = higher proportion of victims.

4. I agree with Shinobi - roads are a public good, and just like the tone of our online community here, every driver (and so every softie) is a contributing entity. Also, you can be law abiding and some careless driver can still ram into you (disclosure: my 40-year old bug got rear-ended a few weekends ago in Singapore - cry cry - because the van driver behind thought a stop signal is optional for him. Bah!).

5. Lastly, apropos of nothing really, I rather enjoyed Ankh's contribution (first page) on his experiences of Singapore-Malaysia in the 50s/60s. I think it's always more illuminating to learn what makes the other fellow tick than get worked-up over supposed intentions.

guys, i'm not sure if there's a thread on this matter already. last week a ferrari driver was assaulted along the highway after his car crashed. as a malaysian reading this news, i don't symphatize that guy at all. why?

I travel on the plus higway frequently, and from my experience, singapore drivers can be such on our roads. i have NEVER seen a singaporean car driving at the speed limit of 110kmh. all flying like it's their father's road. some even got the cheeks to flash me from the back when i'm 'blocking' them. summon so cheap, and if get caught speeding just pay the bribe. only rm50 what... serve them right if they get into trouble.

in the straits times one driver interviewed said "since it's their road we should give them the leeway" - hello, it's not about who's road it is, it's about respecting our country's law!

so if you come to malaysia, do behave and keep a low profile. if not the thugs will get you and the police can't be bothered to help you after that.

cheers
i am an expat in KL and driving a Fiat Punto HGT. KL plate btw. i drove a lot and NKVE to pusat bandar.

and u telling singaporea drive fast?? the malaysian drivers drive even faster a blardy kancil can chase me and flash me down, heck a blardy lorry flash and chase me down and even try to overtake me and almost crash at me!!!

It is off topic but I"ll just asnswer you. The Singapore Flyer!!! Tickets on the flyer is so much cheaper than the F1 tickets.

i think he's asking for it by driving a ferrari lol.

some more going to join a convoy of ferraris i heard, walau, ultimate bling man.

That's what happen to show-offs. Feel sorry for them? Naah! :D

As for the thugs in the sports Mercedes, I don't think are real robbers. They're probably some rich man's sons who behave like hooligans or young punks. The whole incident is likely the result of big egos, face value, jealousy and petty vendetta.

haha.. well...
i dont exactly feel sorry for the driver..
i mean..
a ferrari cant outrun a mercedes?
tt's gotta be a joke.
unless the merc is a brabus or some sort.
but given the situation,
the driver should've taken evasive action and outrun the merc.. not to 'challenge'?
but i pity e passenger though..
must've been a horrific sight.

just my few cents worth.;)

driving a ferrari in msia isnt show off imo. if u own one, in singapore u cant even drive high speed. maybe a few sec and u gonna slow down. in msia is different. and of cos he can outrun the merc, but no one will risk hitting 300km/h just to outrun the robbers.

and dont forget msia cars can zeng like a nfs cars.

Nope, there is still speed limit on M'sian highways, usually 90 km/h or 110 km/h depending on which stretch. So.....just because S'poreans cannot speed in their own country, what gives them the right and audacity to speed and disregard the laws of another country? That reeks of arrogance if you ask me.

And no, you also can't "zeng" your cars illegally in M'sia. It's just that there's lack of enforcement by the JPJ (LTA equivalent).
