Fender Precision bass thread

doesnt even matter if its not poplar anymore,if the workmanship is still lousy, and everything is done in the 'mexican' way,it is not worth buying

I think there's one major problem with MIM Fenders. Its hard to try basses properly to find the 'gem' in an MIM bass :)
I don't disagree with you Rey², but the only difference to me between MIMs and any other mid-range basses regardless of brand is that its harder to find one thats pleasing enough, because people kinda expect the 'classic' sound from a Fender. I'm happy with my MIJ tonally, and its not really that vintage sounding to me. My MIA cheap P bass (to me) dosent sound very nice alone, but my band loves it so...(sigh) haha.

Dude, that's the thing about P Basses.....they sound ugly on their own, but god-like when they're in the mix....

Yeah la. Useful bass agreed. But seriously, I'm getting quite tickled by the tone of P's and am starting to appreciate it on its own in some strange wine-tasting kind of way. I'm STILL hung up on Pino's sound with Mayer...

i love the P sound! i had the opportunity of trying one during band practice today, absolutely blew me away. I REALLY GOTTA get a P Bass. got lobang tell me k guys :D love that fat sound.

for a cheap and kinda good pbass. come to kl, go to wohfatt and get a sx pbass for cheap and then mod the hell out of it

I got the chance to A/B two Precisions, both passive, both running straight to amp uneffected and uncompressed, one with the stock Fender vintage USA pickup (mine) and the other with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity II.

WAH.

All I can say is, the Antiquity IIs make a lot of difference. Bigger lows and clearer highs while still retaining that old-school P vibe. Wah wah wah! I gotta get me one of those.

the 60th Anniversary offering is anything but sloppy (craftsmanship).

hopefully its not sloppy subversion bro,but for 60th anniversary version,i rather get a MIA one, might as well get a good one for collector's value, cheers

..

at 800 nett, the 60th anniversary p bass sounds like a good deal. but i don't see the unique features as 'unique' leh...

the 60th Ann P-bass is $900 nett. there aren't supposed to be unique features, just a commemorative unit. the Diamond neck-plate are about as individual as it gets.

Hi Sub,

Amp aside, hows the 60th ann P soundwise?

the 60th Ann p-bass has lots of feel in it- superb to say the least. however, unlike the guitar counterpart, the bass version isn't equipped with a hotter pickup. there isn't an extra offering tone-wise.

however i think it would be a real good platform to start adding your pickups and stuff. it's solidly built and made to last; probably even longer than you!

+1. The modular nature of Fenders makes them so much fun to mod and easier to fix. My '62 Precision is my no.1 working bass.
