Fender Japan in Tokyo

I'm not sure about other guitar shops, but Ishibashi shops sells for what they list. (I don't think you can get away without tax, but you can try flashing your passport just to try out.)

if its guitars you are looking for, there is only one name you have to remember. write it on your forehead, tattoo it on your backside if you have to

OCHANOMIZU

guitars on every wall of every store. and yes, the price you see on ishibashi site is more or less what you get. heck, ishibashi itself has a store in ochanomizu

I personally prefer Shibuya. The choices there are already enough to boggle the mind. AND, while you're guitar shopping, your wife/girlfriend can shop around there for her own stuff too! best of both worlds! whahahaha...

I just got back from Tokyo on Thursday. I picked up my second dragonfly, this one being a Hi-Tee. I go over a couple of times a year now and I am still surpised by just how much there is to see. I didn't look at fenders but don't rule out picking something else up thats pretty special. Twice i have gone over to get a specific guitar and twice i have come back with something else.

You can't get a good picture of what is available from the net. A lot of the good secondhand stuff is in and out very quickly and quite often the new stuff may be out of stock.

I am sure you wont have a problem with a fender though. Whatever you buy, tell the shop you are flying with it and it needs to be packed properly. More and more they are only offering gig bags with the gutars.

Enjoy yourself and bring something warm as it is getting cold.

Hi Damo, Do you know of any place in Tokyo that has a good range of Classical guitar?

No not at all, I have never looked. However i would bet that you can find something in Ochanomizu. There are also a number of classical string instrument shops (violin cello etc). Many of the larger stores have floors for acoustic guitars, so perhaps there as well.
good luck

+100000 for Ochanomizu. Spent the whole day there when I was in Tokyo a couple of weeks back. Came home with this:

That's a maple through neck and ash body with a spalted maple top. It's got a matching headstock laminate too. And the neck angle is done without cutting the neck.
