hey subversion i think i saw you there....trying out the strats with the peavey XXL amp for quite some time right?

em... i think you saw me giving an impromtu pinch harmonics lesson to a guy there while waiting for gargemelesp to reach the store...

hey guys, a mini review of my new hw1 strat. Nothing compared to sub's of course but here goes :)

Out from the box the r/w fret borad was looking a little, in fact very, dry but i guess its due to storage and the fact that he had to take it out from a taped up cardboard box means im probably the first, apart from the salesman and fender crew, to touch it :) Anyway went home and did the lemon oil treatment and changed strings and shes looking ready to rock.

The finish is nice, but i can just imagine a nice coat of gloss over it. I think it would cost 200 bucks or so to do it so i guess i wont after all, thats what i bough the highway1 for. The honey blonde is very light in colour, i though it was more woody after looking at fenders website but it turned out to be more of a malmsteen strat colour, the light yellow one. Im happy with it anyway.

The pickups are very twangy when used in clean, and as compared to the mexican series which i tested that day with sub, the mex sounded more compressed. However on the OD channel of my amp, there is quite a lot of hum going on. My next step would probably to source for quieter pickups when used on the OD channel but which still retain the twang during clean.

All hardware, pots, pickup selectors, tuning heads, bridge were in perfect condition. No signs of corrosion visible and they turned and worked smoothly.

Action was pretty good too, but just a little on the low side. Got straplocks installed too and apart from the pickup change in the future, shes ready to rock besides my Esp. For you guys still undecided, go and test one out for yourself, you will be surprised.

Actually i heard from the salesman that the teles are selling way faster than the strats. So for those of you who are looking for a strat, my guess is that they MIGHT just might allow double strat pairings maybe towards the end of the sale. Im just guessing so dont take my word for it.

Look forward to hear from fellow highway1 buyers! In the mean time, off to practice on her.

P.S. : seems like a few of you were here that day, could you describe yourselves to me? I would like to know who i saw :) Thanks sub once again

i love my h1 tele too~

oh i was the guy in a white tee with green print and brown slack cargos. maybe can remember me from my sorta spiked hair.

same as you, when i saw my tele outta the box...the rosewood was all dry. all it took was a nice rub of lemon oil and its as good as brand new. no major defects and pretty well set up.

i suppose next in line for this guitar would be pups change.....need something of the same tonal characteristics but slightly hotter and breaks up nicely when cranked

sub: u did more than harmonics leh hahaha....rocking pretty hard down the corner. was listening while pondering over my purchase :o

yea

Hey edo! wow so you eventually stayed back and got the tele huh? haha ... did you get the ts9 too? oh i was the guy with jem007...

yea my friend got the j bass and i got the tele the very next day.....ts-9 maybe sometime later hahaha now pok liao no money

theres a chance of it being so but frankly it dosent really bother me.If you try it out and like it, then i think it being discontinued and stuff wont be a bother :)

Go test out the stuff in person and make a judgement whether its worth buying that particular piece you played

Jem007: yea should be him.

sub: black tee with specs and short crew cut hair right? hope im not wrong hehe

juz came back frm sweelee, surprised to find the mim j bass is going for $880, so act u can get the H1 j bass cheaper $825 frm the package...which is better rite?

wats the diff bet the mim j bass n the H1 j bass?

The Standard and Highway 1 series both cater to different needs, and I would think that as it is a combo deal, the Highway would come off as cheaper. Besides, the Satin finish isn't that popular as a glossy lacquer.
However, I would prefer getting both. Haha. 8O
