Fender guitars

Recently i was on a tele hunt, so i went to a couple of places and tried a few teles. i was originally looking for a 52 AVRi and decided maybe i should broaden my horizons a bit so i tried 2 custom shops (one was a nocaster another i think was a 50s), 1 AVRI , a MIA standard and a squire

oddly to me the standard played and sounded the best, it puzzles me a bit as i cant seem to appreciate high end fenders, i've only tried one good deluxe (others are kinda meh) and thus far no CS models that impresed me

anyone have got the same experience? or its just me

may have just been the ones you tried. For me I went to a certain big local store and tried many of the high end fenders like am stds, deluxes and vintage reissues, but they didnt really inspire me or did not play that well because they were not well maintained.

If I was in for a tele, personally i'd go for a squier classic vibe series. Even if they dont play better than fenders in absolute terms they're certainly really good relative to their price.

might be, i thought it was a "big shop" syndrome where the guitars are left in rather "haphazard" conditions (ie:under aircon and under bright lights) that caused the issue. went to a smaller store and they took out a CS and the same thing happened, i took an R9 from the side and it was a breeze to play.

i find it rather odd considering that my main guitar is an MIJ fender strat which i swear by.

im not really interested in teh CV, while they make certain good ones, it takes a bit of hunting (more so than a standard) to find a good one

Go for a custom shop model when the regular line just doesn't do it for you anymore.
A guitar is only as good as it gets when it's set up right.

Went to Guitar Center in US.

Tried a vintage non-RI 72 strat or something. The standard MIM and MIA strats sounds way better.

YMMV.

i tried 2 custom shops, they are not master built but they are the time machine and NOS series. thing was the standard tele was the one that stole the show, the neck was satin and smooth. naturally comparing the two might seem wrong cuz' one is lacquered, but to my experience (and personal preference) with lacquered guitars it should not play that "roughly" it might eb sticky due to our humidity, but thats about it.

the CBS ones? i heard they can be a huge hit and miss

I never believe and agree in this phase "Best gear with a high price tag". The best strat I played before wasn't a CS either. Its just simply a Fender strat Special.

i do agree in some ways, but i find curious about this is that normally the high ends i can least "understand" it. i was just wondering if anyone experienced the same thing.

The MIMs have gotten really really good in my experience so far.

ive played really bad MIM's dont know about recent years tho

To each his own. The only sure thing is that higher-end gear tend to retain their market value better.

strangely they dont, they retain it quite badly. i did a check the cheaper ones hold their value better, long term well is still up to anyones guess

Sound and tone wise it's subjective to player's tastes. Some like it twangy, some like it punchy, some likes a chimmy bell. The difference in CS, MB and the standard series is a matter of appointments and how it makes you feel. Personally, I like the feel of a CS relic, its vintage spec, it's broken in, neck is unfinished smooth like silk and I don't have to worry about dinging it and of cos the vintage look that gives it a lot of mojo. These are appointments that matter to me and I can't get from the standard series so I went out looking for one and found a keeper. Make a list of what have to have in a strat first than go seek one with the tone you like.

im actually looking for a vintage sounding telecaster, hence the AVRI52 and the nocaster comes to mind. my general tone is centered around the 50's-70's which teh latter i got covered.

hence i was scouting around and found a few guitars which while being expensive somehow didnt impress me

What amp are you planning to use?

Check out Brad Paisley's tele tone..

Tele into ac30 with alnico blues are amazing.

I plan to use it with an AC15, Marshall JMP, but majority of the time AC15

The 'older' types are supposed to be more authentic to the originals hence they're going to feel nothing special compared to the modern up-to-date models. CS tends to be a bit over-rated as are their competitors. The whole bias against "made in anywhere not the US" is redundant these days and as many say, they find good ones from elsewhere. An old uni pal had a CS one and he abused the hell out of it to the point that it was horrible to play...prior to that it was even just "okay" and nothing special. Imho i'd get something that's special if it were a US made model...something more customised & exotic.

after much research it certainly seems like it, im not considering juts go for a AVRi and be done with it

Hey there, hope it's okay to ask another question on Fender guitars on this thread. i'm deciding on getting a Fender American Strat. but just not sure if i should go for the standard or deluxe. i know the pickups are different on both. but apart from that i'd appreciate if someone can enlighten me on the key differences for those who've played both models. thanks guys.

pickups, tuners and i think the deluxe has kinda a slight rounded neck pocket to make it easier to play. in simple terms tho, the deluxe is just a pimped up version of the standard, it doesnt offer appointments that are only found in the CS line (ie: custom handwound pups, nitro finish etc etc..) most of the stuff in it are the same

i personally am not a fan of the deluxe, partly due to the N3 pups they put in.

Yeah. I personally prefer the Standard over the Deluxe. I don't think the extra couple of hundreds are worth it for the Deluxe. The Standard already has pretty nice pickups which are the Custom Shop fat 50s.

While we compare the standard vs deluxe,

the upper tier guys are comparing deluxe vs custom shop wahaha
