Fender 135W Twin Restoration (photos inside)

Thanks guys.. the re-wiring of the power tube sockets took about 4 days..

The installation of the new transformers took about 2 days..

Actually we've been sitting on the amp for quite a while cause my dad was quite busy. He only had time to work on it the last couple of weeks. :)

oh yah about the speakers... i'm inclined to go for original fender twin speakers. I've previously purchased one from Swee Lee before hence I'll do the same for this amp..

cheers!

I am so jealous just reading this thread.

Good on you and your dad.

Hope to own a piece of amp history like this someday.

this was one heavy brick for me moving it from place to place and eventually ending up at indigo's dad's place : )

I'm happy that this brick turned gold for you and your dad... you good folks deserve it

Big SALUTE to your dad, dude.

I always respect seniors with technical/engineering skills and lending a helping hand to get things, amps or not, solved.

Really remind me of my dad who have custom soldered me patch cables.

You have to learn all those skills from him man, really..

Yup! I know a thing or two about tube amps now. Tks for the comments! :)

My dad says without the scope, it would be impossible to repair the amps..

Your father is very correct. Without the scope, you can't tell if the amp is clipping right when pushed. I wish I had one of those scopes. Very useful. And so is the signal generator. Wah... brings me back quite a few years man...

you have the coolest dad in singapore, but....

...now it isn't really a vintage fender twin anymore, right?

Yes! Technically that is true!

Its got Mercury Magnetics transformers now!

Its got brand new Fender Speakers too... so I won't consider a vintage Fender anymore.. I have another 1969 Twin Reverb that is more 'vintage Fender' cause its still got its original transformers and speakers! The only thing is we modified that amp's circuit to the original 1965 blackface circuit! Haha!!

Well its hard to find an original 1960s Fender that is still in perfect working condition in Singapore. Any amp more than 30 years old would probably have been used and abused. But its fun to try to restore them to good working condition.

They are actually pretty easy to fix according to my dad because of the point-to-point wiring.. can just replace any spoilt components easily. This is unlike modern PCB amps. Of course you would need the right equipment like the scope which helps alot. Otherwise will be like groping around in the dark.

I am envy too. Right now i am having amp problem and i have no one to turn to...Let me know if i can seek your dad advice. Thanks in advance
