hi everybody,

i know this is a little belated, i just got back from work-related meetings in manila but i wanted to say on behalf of my band, a huge huge thank you to rachel, the photographers, the bands, and everyone who helped make FYS2 such a joy to be part of!

FYS1 was amazing and FYS2 seriously raised the bar; i hope perhaps it's just the beginning of a very successful, fun series.

wgb offers our heartfelt appreciation for giving us a show to remember!

cheers,
dharma

The last couple of pages has been a pretty interesting read for me. Heh.

Firstly, congrats and kudos to the organisers and crew for working hard to organise a gig on such a large scale. Definately good for the scene to have good bands play in a nice environment.

This one is more to the photogs : I don't know exactly how the setup is for that place as I've never been in there but shooting a gig isn't all about shooting every single thing. A no no I would say is to block the paying fans view or even irritate them for that matter. Yes you have permission to roam freely from the organisers but once people start complianing about your prescence, I would say you have failed no matter how good your shots were. Gig photography etiquette is very important. There's a reason why some venues have allocated photo/video pits and even limit the number of photogs to some shows. If you really need to block someone to get your shot then quickly shoot and go. Ha, I could go on but just be mindful of the people around you and everyone would get to enjoy the show. :)

To add on to what's been said so far.

I wasn't at FYS2 (ugh) but I agree with this:

A no no I would say is to block the paying fans view or even irritate them for that matter. ... ... once people start complaining about your presence, I would say you have failed no matter how good your shots were. Gig photography etiquette is very important.

Personally I've always did my best to minimise affecting other people's enjoyment at gigs.. I feel its part of trying to improve on being professional. If I did annoy anyone, it was always accidental & whenever I'll immediately apologise if possible.

I feel that YES, while we photographers (especially unpaid volunteers) may slog during gigs, it must NEVER get to our heads that we can do anything we want to get that perfect shot. Its a give-&-take issue, the crowd support & give way whenever possible, but photographers must avoid being assholes.

But 1 thing I wanna confirm:

Then at Stasis a few weeks back plainsunset want to start song but cannot because a photographer is standing on top of their pedal board!

Bro someone bro, are you sure on that? I'm assuming you meant "Stasis 10" yep? I was shooting & involved in helping out with misc stuff at that gig; was right upfront most of the way. Neither me nor any other person stood on any Plainsunset member's pedalboard delaying their show. They were delayed coz they needed to set up equipment and also had some sound probs. Just clarifying :)

My most important point though: Let there be more LOVE lah. Everyone flen flen give chance can?
