Fake Guitars in the Buy and Sell Section...

Shouldn't these guys be arrested for selling off fake branded guitars even if they're used items? I'm not really that familiar with the law here regarding those but if a guy is blatantly saying " I have a fake Gibson for sale here", it's still selling illegal stuff specially that the counterfeit brand name is on the headstock. I don't own a Gibson and probably won't ever will but I'm just puzzled that those guitars can make it to our buy and sell section(or maybe they got taken down already by the mods).

heh, in order to be prosecuted, there need to be organization that oversee and regulate the sales of musical instrument, prolly with penal code to follow.

Unfortunately, there is none of such nature if iam not wrong. Closest is prolly ipos(intellectual property of singapore). But within their umbrella, whether or not it cover the sales of such instrument as an individual and not a pte ltd, is another thing.

Afterall, if the sales of such nature, where communication is done properly between seller and buyer, with buyer knowing that its a fake that they are buying, what can we say. It takes 2 hands to clap yeah.

The only thing that we can do, is prolly notifying the moderator of the forum and have them removing the ad. Anything more, we are prolly on a witch hunt on a fruitless trail.

Anyway, call police also no use, it aint porn or contraband item. They would prolly ask you back, under which regulation or law can they or organization regulation to take further action. Hehe, In my course of work, at time when needing them, thats the reply i get, "so what do you want us to do with mr/ms so and so and if wanna raise charge, under what law". To give them some credit, its not that they aint doing anything, but certain context, they aint too familiar with.

Hehehe, live and let live, just like piracy, we cant stop the movement, but at least on personal level, things can be changed. But if the person in concern is not willing too, whatever we can do, it wont be fully effective.

As long as the sellers don't pass off their fakes as genuine, I guess we can live and let live.

It can be even better if everyone do their part by NOT buying fake guitars in the first place. That way, we can keep the fakes out from the used market.

Want a Gibson but couldn't afford one? Buy a Tokai, Edwards, Epiphone, Rally, Greco or whatever, rather than a fake piece of crap. I'm sure most people can live without that name on the headstock.

Agree with guitarsan totally.

Thing is, very young players (teenagers) tend to be brand-conscious. So they would still be tempted to buy fakes because of the name on the headstock.

@PatheinRaindropMoe: Yeah, I guess that's just the sad reality for us guitar players. Our set of norms is just way different from the usual merchandise so non-musicians can't really understand our predicament when it comes to matters like this.

@guitarsan: Totally agree with you. That's exactly what I meant. Fake guitars pose a threat of having people, specially the beginners, of perceiving them as genuine even with today's massive internet info. Somewhere down the line, if the guitar gets passed from one owner to another, there's a big chance one of these owners will pass it off as a genuine to unsuspecting buyers.

I suppose there's a "thrill" to own something similar but personally I don't think that it's worth. Anyways, I do agree with you, there shouldn't be any fake instrument advertisements posted.
