Excercises For Vibrato

Hi peps. How do you guys vibrato? I just most my lower jaw up and down as if shivering :D I learnt as i play teh clarinet too. Just asking. Any tips to make it nice like those extremely long vibratoed [if theres such a word] endings you hear on american idol and other pro singers?

I do vibrato by relaxing my throat and bringing my vocal cords firmly together (just enough), with the right amount of air pressure underneath. That gives a vibrato that doesn't require you to do anything, it just happens. But there are other types of vibrato too.

I'm sure the pro singers use the "vocal cord" vibrato I'm talking about. Opera singers too.

There's also diaphragm vibrato, which is what the "hey-ey-ey" exercise is about. The examples of diaphragm vibrato I've heard don't sound nice :( But maybe that's just because the person doing the example wasn't a good singer.

Clarinetist don't normally vibrato. haha... normally left to the strings in an orchestra or the flutes and saxes in bands. but yeah... when there is a need to you can use your diaphragm or lip for clarinet. dunno about vocals.

If you have no vibrato at all, produce something slow and draggy for a start. When you're used to this, slowly accelerate the speed of that draggy vibrato. It'll turn out naturally after this.

Seriously, i cant do vibrato on purpose.
Been doing performance in schools and events.
It comes out naturally at times though.
Someone teach me please?
LOL. ((:

cruelvanity> it IS supposed to come out naturally, there's no real technique to switch vibratos on and it's not something learned; it just comes out naturally in time as your voice rounds up..

savage~ love the vid, a little rough around the edges with the falsetto (think you're stressing it a wee bit too much, which makes it hard to come down to the lower notes / chest voice) but otherwise very nice :D Damn i'm always jealous with people who can sing and play piano at the same time... :(

[sage] My vocal coach said there are methods to do so though.
But i didnt dwell on it much at that point of time.
Leona Lewis is one singer with one hell load of vibrato to spill in every song.
Have you tried reaching the whistle register?
(:

Nope, unless I'm singing mariah carey songs, I find them quite pointless :P Getting really bored with the high note hype..

[sage] LOL!
Yeap, i do agree.
Very very true.
I cant reach the whistle register anymore, lack of practise.
Do u use more of your second voice or falsetto when you sing high parts?
I find it hard to control when singing high parts, even with proper breathing.
It 'breaks', u know u know? D:
Oh btw, i find it sooooo exciiting to talk to people with alot of experience and similar interest!!
Am sure glad i found this site. ^^,

Sometimes you can feel it that your throat is floating in ur throat. Its a floating feeling & with the right amount of air you get the vibrato effect.

For me.. as a matter of preference, it depends on the songs; sometimes a falsetto sounds nicer and suited to some songs, but otherwise I'll use the .. er second voice, I'm assuming you mean head voice right? Yeah should be lol

It might be breaking cos your throat isn't open enough..
try yawning, like a big hearty yawn... and feel your throat open
remember how that feels and try to use the same sensation when you sing your highs..

If that doesn't work then I have no idea liao, since it's not an air thing :/

[fgl] Shall try to make time for it.
Thanks for the invite. (:

[getwebdesigner] Thanks for the advise/info. ^^,
