crap man... i juz practice for half an hour every night. and i don't even study! my class position is 38/39!!!

If i could choose l33t skills in guitar VS good grades now that i've left secondary school, i'd choose good grades. Unless you're really intent on being a musician. Actually i am, or should i say was. But then nowadays i kinda feel jaded with the whole band thing that i just wanna concentrate on my grades.

Amen to that detroit. now i'm trying to strike a balance between school and guitar. Probably gonna put aside 3 hours max a day for guitar. Maybe i'll join the guitar club over in school.

Fender: i wanna ask. how slow is slow in your progress?

well, first of all, after 2 years of following almost the same routine, my speed still isnt up.

my theory still sucks. i still dont know how to use arpeggios. and i dont know how to use scales either.

my technique is fairly good but not that good. hammer ons and pull ofss especially.

and all my friends are going faster than me.

Well, maybe you can tell us.. how you practice? Maybe your practice method is not efficient.

Pier.

He's a real guy? Lol, I thought he was just some guiness gimmick...

Personally though I think he's all about crap talk. He talks as if anyone can turn from a sec school dropout to a self-made millionaire by 26.

I 've heard him twice and he bores me. Man's a super show-off too.

Narcoleptia: he's successful cos S'poreans are suckers for such feel-good seminars. We are generally a materialistic bunch who will throw money at anyone who says he can make us all millionaires.

Fenderrules: maybe u can tell us abt your practice regime? 4hrs a day is more than enough time if you're practicing smart.

technique: first i would work on my hammers on and pull offs all over the fret, then ill try to mix them with some riffs i made myself or maybe some chops i read off magazines. trying the one used by mark tremonti.

my alternative picking is still not good enough, been clipping wrong strings here and there. working on them by going up and down the a minor pentatonic scale. theres only slight progress that i clip less strings than before. same goes for single note muting.

working on economy picking using a major 7th arpeggio i made up myself by accident. so far i still cant be a killer shredder.

no doubt ive grasped harmonics, but not to the standard where i can just pick and the note will scream out. cuz since artificial harmonics require the thumb to be near the edge of the pick, im practicing how to do that when im doing regular strumming/palm muting/soloing.

theory: still doing reading up on arpeggios and practicing the a minor arpeggio. i already know the pattern, but then still dunno how to improvise since i need to memorize the fretboard. and i still dunno what is a triad inversion.

scales: same status as arpeggios. so far i know the hiroujoushi, pentatonic, major and minor scales. but still dunno how to use them.

pitching: still not very good. i practice by hearing a song and identifying the key without touching the guitar.

yeah thats about it.

Dude maybe you could try learning songs/riffs. For me there's more sense of accomplishment after you've mastered a certain song. In this way you'll be able to apply the technique youv'e learnt, and it's more fun. You can also play songs for your frens so that you'll overcome nervousness and stuff, pple generally like to hear maybe a riff and go .." ah I know that! .. that is layla, ... ah that's purple haze" .. u get the idea.
For ear training, can start off by working out chords to the songs you listen to, and then comparing them with the actual scores to see if you're right. This will help your composing ability.

Pier.

Man this makes guitar playing sound like such a JOB!! :D relax bro, stop worrying about how much your friends are better, how they r better blah blah...people who get too caught up in technique forget how to have fun
ps.how long you been playing,I have heard the same kind of enthusiasm and frustration from many inexperienced players, time heals by itself 8)
