Equipment in orchard hotel??

Hi people,
I'm currently sec 4 this year, and i will be having prom on 25 nov. The prom is held in orchard hotel and my class is thinking of collaborating and playing some songs, well like a band :) .
The 2 songs we are considering are "The great escape" by boys like girls and "Sweet child o' mine" by Guns n' Roses. However, i was wondering if the hotel have the proper equipment. It would be too much of a hassle if i needed to bring amps, drums etc.. (Quite impossible actually).
Are drums, guitar amps etc. available there?? Thanks.

you know actually, you can ask the organizing committee to ask the hotel.
there should be an organizing committee right? like student council etc etc.

Call them

Hey man,

instead of asking anyone here why dont you give the hotel a call and ask them if they have the equipment and if they will lend to you?

having said that, i doubt that the hotel would have the equipment, having had some experience playing at weddings, you would have to provide for your own.

but still no harm trying instead of asking here

What's your name?
Im playing for your prom too.
Im playing with Li ling.

Li Ling from sec 4D?? waa, i didn't know other people wanted to perform too. I bet her performance must be an acoustic one right??
Yeah, i also doubt that the hotel have any equipment.. It would be too inconvenient if they don't have drum sets.

My 2cents worth from working in the hotel industry...

Ask your school to bring their own PA system, musical instruments, amplifiers and what not.. Renting ANY AV equipment from the hotel would definitely blow up your school's budget (marked up prices).. If its too troublesome to bring your own, my advise is to get your equipment from rental companies instead, eg. Boons offers cheap for a full PA, drumset and amplifiers...

Ok, thanks for the advise/information.

Last resort, do an acoustic set. If you're only playing 2 songs, the rental of the equipment isn't worth it. Moreover, the crowd MIGHT stink because they're nicely dressed. I doubt people would be jumping and all.

For me, it doesn't really matter if they are going to be "jumping and all" (actually i never really thought of that), i just want to get a feel of performing. Moreover, it's prom and i'm not "officially" trained in acoustic sets, so the band kind of thing is better for me

You've got PM. You will know who to look for with regards to your performance ;)

Also, a full rock band performance at a prom night might not be feasible. Main reasons are cost of equipment rental and the amount of noise. No offence, but unless your band is a seasoned pro who plays a lot of such hotel gigs (they will know how to balance sound levels accordingly), it is strongly not advisable to do a full rock band set at such functions :)

@ M80,
Can bring drums to prom meh?
What happen t our "graduation band"?
hahahah.

Yeah they're doing an acoustic set.

The graduation band at Grad Day last year was possible mainly because it was in school. I could borrow the drumset from the school band while the boys brought the amps themselves.

It happened also because the boys approached me to help them with it as they had no drummer and no idea how to go about it.

Now you should know who am I right? lol

Haha, the teacher who once played during the assembly performance by a few groups of drummers.

Well get your school to pay for the equipment rental, about 500 over bucks. I do that all the time haha. I think once, the equipment bill came up to about 2.3 k and they still paid for it hahaha but don't got that extreme and use Mesa's indoors.

We shouldnt have played GNR.
7/8 of the audience were oblivious to what we're playing.

@Holispirit

Probably just the amplifiers.

Could you be one of the "elusive" dudes who played 'Don't Cry' by Guns n Roses last year during our school's Graduating day??? I saw the last 22 sec of it. Looked quite promising.
Why were they oblivious?? Not loud enough??? haha.
