Epiphone Elitist Series

Anyone knows whether Swee Lee will bring in the Epiphone Elitist series of guitars? Or are they priced too competitive with the Gibsons to warrant a cannibalistic threat to sales?

How much do you think they would cost here?

Hi,

The Elitist have been in Swee Lee for quite sometime. As for the price... well, if you dun mind paying more than 2k for an "inferior" guitar.

But the Elitist ES-335 looks gd! :D

Why do you consider the Elitist line inferior? Aren't they made in Japan and with much better hardware and wood than the normal Epiphone.

Yep, I was thinking about the Elitist Dot.

Are the Elitist models displayed in that special room at Swee Lee?

Yup, they are.

Note the quotation marks over the word inferior in my last post. I never said they are of a poorer quality. In fact, some folks consider Jap-made guitars (Fenders, Epiphone) much better than their "superior" American counterparts. No Friday syndrome, at least.

I use a Epiphone ES-335 myself. If I had the money, I dun mind getting a Elitist series 335... but then why waste that type $ on a 335 again when it can get u a Jap Strat and Tele at the same time!!!

:D

Was at Swee Lee during lunch time today but didn't see any Epiphone Elitist models in that special room.

Then went over to try out the Epiphone Dot Limited Edition model and the Cort Source (a 335 copy) without plugging in. Somehow the Cort plays and feels better. I can't decide between the two!

Which would you guys recommend?

Hahaha,

Actually I think you already know what you really want. You'd just want confirmation? :D

Have fun with your new toy!

Well, not exactly.

I'm still weighing the pros and cons between the two. Playability is just one factor but is not the sole determining one.

Right now, I'm 60% for the Epi and 40% for the Cort, but things can change if I know of further information regarding these two models.

Actually, there was a third guitar in the mix, but thankfully I didn't like the colour. It's a Hamer 335 copy selling at City Music. Unfortunately they only have one model and only in one colour (sunburst).

Erm, can't really help u there.

At least to me, the playability and feel should rank the highest. After all, electronics can be changed and modded.

Yes, I agree that playability and feel should rank the highest. But in the case of these two semi-hollows, their difference in playability is not out by a big margin. That's what makes choosing one over the other a difficult choice.

The Cort plays well but loses out sightly on the hardware bit. The Dot, although playing only slightly inferior, however has better hardware. The price difference between the two is less than $180. Considering the cost of upgrade, it may make more money sense to get the Dot, at least for those Grover tuners and some freebies thrown in.

A friend of mine has already decided to get the Dot. I might just follow suit and get a better deal.

BTW, how's your Dot? Still stock or has it been upgraded? Do you use it mostly for jazz playing or other genre like rock and blues?

test them out more lah.. maybe u'll find an answer after a while..

i bought a Cort Triggs2 from swee bloody lee as well.. n i loved it.. very playable n although hardware not too good.. the sound is not bad at all..

Well I went down to Swee Lee at Sims Drive this morning and tried the Dot, the Source and the Sheraton. At the end of it, I'm still partial to the Dot. Looks like it'll be guitar #8 very soon.

fwoah!!! #8?

What are the rest of your collection like?

Sorry for the late reply. Was very busy with the web-zine. :D

My Dot 335 is natural blonde/ finish. It's pretty screwed now with the tailpiece and saddles are corroded... Hehehe, MrMisse can attest to tt.

I bought it off this guy who sings for funk band, Soul Solution. He said he changed the machine heads to Grovers but it read Schaller. Not tt shabby at least. The rest are stock. Need to change pickups though. Heard the Bill Lawrences are gd stuff.

I wish I could play jazz!!! :(

I just play some funk/pop stuff...

Actually my collection is rather average. I know of someone who has 9 and I believe some members here have just as many guitars as I have or even more.

One thing's for sure, you never get bored playing with all the guitars.

I have yet to get guitar #8. Still mulling over them. Maybe I might get a Casino instead cos' of the P90s. Too many similar humbucker guitars at home.
