hey guys i need ur opinions really badly as soon as possible. i have a budget of $800 and i cant decide whether to get Epiphone LP Custom or Schecter Tempest Extreme or Omen 6 FR Extreme. I think the price of LP Custom is arnd $800 but tats Custom Plus on Sweelee webby and no free gig bag. Whereas the tempest custom is $499 + free randall amp(i think 15 or 20 watts forgot to ask) and gig bag. The Omen6 FR Extreme is $599 + free randall amp + gig bag. And can any1 explain to me why basswood body is a big turn off for most people. izzit really lousy? which type do u prefer? THANKS PPL

first, try both guitars if possible. for me, the lp neck is chunky(ier) than the schecter neck.

next, which sound do you like better? when you try the guitars dun base the quality of the sound on just the guitar, if u try at guitar 77 u'd be playing through a much more exp amp.

do u like whammy stunts? thats another thing to consider *floyd*

basswood isnt a "bad" wood per say, just that people feel it does not really bring out the tone, but its an excellent wood for shred (i've heard). heck, some jems use basswood.

and at g77 u will be using those jekyll and hyde kinda effects..the sound is totally diff..

oh thx guys...btw the tempest extreme is 499+randall amp and bag.... i think there was a typo...i typed custom which is much more exp lol

What does "not really bring out the tone" mean?

Some Ibanez JEMs? I know the JEM7VWH is ONE model that is with an alder body, name me another JEM that has a non-basswood body.

i think ill get the LP.

u guys wanna noe sumthing? a couple of weeks ago i tried my friend's GIBSON LP CUSTOM and epi lp standard(w/ gibson 490 498 pickups), honestly both guitar sounded the same to me. the sustain and tone is exactly the same juz whn i thought there would be a distinct difference.

Well... I'm not out to flame him or anything, but I think there has to be ... a better choice of words.

Thats all.

Threadstarter. is your 800 budget for guitar + amp or just guitar alone?

either one: oblivion or epi LP's are really good..
but why do you think one's priced at 600 and the other at 3000+?

the quality control at gibson is much better than epiphone, together with the manufacturing process. Its much harder to find a gibson lemon than one from epiphone.

but whatever suits you. if you can save money, why not?

erm not very true for gibson lemon

last year was not a good year for gibson... inconsistency in production... kinda badly

wats a gibson lemon!?!??! LOL!! i agree tat the gibson is much better in quality but in terms of sound, i juz thought it would be lyk WOW!! anyway my parents wont allow me to buy guitars more den 1k. i guess ill wait till i get a high paying job or maybe aft NS which is lyk 6 more yrs??

for guitar alone....

other options:

cort kx1f
24 fret set neck, double humbucker, mahogany body/neck, laminate flame top, string thru body fixed bridge

list price(b4 discount) $700

yamaha rg?520
24 fret bolt-on, double humbucker, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, yamaha's tool-less floyd rose system

list price $800

I'm not keen on that new Yamaha tool-less FR system. Its a gimmick if anything, and the trem looks cheaply made. I tried one, didn't impress me one bit.

I'd go for the yamaha RGX420, the one with the direct switch, that one is a good guitar, about 600.
