EMG pickups

Are EMG pickups like more suitable for metal and not able to play other genre of music? for e.g., the EMG81 and 60, does it sound very metal-ish? do they sound nice in clean? I'm looking at the jim root telecaster haha, it is damn nice but without any tone knobs.... is it possible to install tone pots into it?

Thanks!

clean sound how it is, not too sure.

Adding tone pot, yes. As long as theres space and hole to accomodate the pot. It can be added in, wired between the volume pot and output jack usually.

Uhm no, unless you have a really have a good clean amp, using an active pickup (or EMG in this case) won't give you clean sounds because of it's high output power

i recommend EMG 89 active pickup with coil tap. its awesome in neck position. clean single coil is very very sweet! as for tone pot, u have choice of either bypass it completely (that will make your pickup slightly brighter) or add permanent capacitor on volume pot (emulating your tone pot). in last case your pickup will sound exactly like with tone pot, only permanently fixed without option to roll down.

btw, emg 60 in bridge positon is also good on clean but its very powerful so can saturate clean channel to overdrive easily

Zakk Wylde and Kerry King use 6550 tubes on their marshalls. They both use EMG-81/EMG-85.

Wikipedia says EMG's will crank even the cleanest amps to overdrive because they're so high output. EXCEPT if the amp has the 'zero-breakup' tube 6550's

Which is what Zakk and Kerry use anyway (at least Zakk still does, Kerry has KT88's in his now)

So they have their awesome EMG'ness, capable of clean sound!

EMG 60 and 81. Which of them should be at the bridge? And how much do they cost?
It depends on preference I guess, but most people would have the EMG 81 on the bridge because the 81 is supposed to produce bright tones. I think Davis sells EMGs for $135 each
