bro many will come up and say that 81/60 is the shyte while some sy 85/60 kills.but personally 81/60 really is the shyte.dont know about 85/60.btw what genre you playing?amp you using?

I am using a combo of EMG 81 in the neck and EMG 85 in the bridge for my main rock guitar. A PRS SingleCut. Upon recommendation from someone on another forum i decided to give them a try since i wanted to swap out the pickups anyway. It has been a very good experience.

The cleans were what really surprised me. They are really fat and rich sounding. Not to mention very even balance from string to string. Don't be expecting clean sounds like a strat. These are active humbuckers. But, they are able to give a good mimic of a "hollow-body" humbucker sound and also a wide range of fat and clear tones.

Distortion wise, they are high output of course. Personally i love how the EMGs react in a singlecut much more then a les paul. Its just overall a better sounding pickup in it. Acquired taste with regards how you like distortion with the active pickups. Anyone who says EMGs are not great for low gain or other applications, doesn't know what they are talking about. ( just waiting for someone to post that )

Here is a clip of the EMG81 in the neck and EMG85 in the bridge. Videos are by the fella who recommended them to me.

i would say depends on wad genre..if u're playinf drop C the EMG81 will do a killer job , not sure abt the seymour duncan's blackout's but heard it's good la .

81/85 seems to be a popular combo huh.
And it does make your playing electrifying.
It's like the pickups is bloody hungry for notes to be hit.
It scares me sometimes.

I stick to Duncan Distortion.

i have emgs 81/81 on my sg...but i am starting to feel that both the treble and the rhythm sound nearly the same..duh cos both are 81s...but i am getting more throat and attack it seems..i have this thought of changing one of them to the 60 to see how it goes...

any advice?
