Elixirs users. What's your resort?

So THAT explains why the high E i changed on my acoustic has rusted more in 3 months than the rest of the strings in 2.5 years! I have got to get me a set of the anti-rust plain steels...................i can't take the rusted high E.

Its true. My friends can attest to it. My strings haven't been changed since end-2009. And i want those anti-rust plain steels back. Looks like i'm going to have to buy the old stocks from Music Theme til Elixir restarts production of the anti-rust plain steels.

I emailed Elixir and i received the following response:

Hello Caleb,

Thanks for your interest in and support of Elixir Strings and for taking the time to write us. Anti- Rust Plain Steel strings are in production and shipping to distributors and retailers. We expect you should be able to find them in your local retailers or online retailers approximately May 1, 2012.

Thanks and regards,
Georgia Ritter

the latest elixer strings with ANTI-RUST COATING is available in singapore
its at sinemax, basement, $28(without coating is $24)

sinemax is the official distributors for elixer strings in singapore
i checked with them why davis sell them so much cheaper(the acoustic elixer@$19, $15forElectric)
cos davis are parallel importers?(not sure if its true but that's what the salesman there told me)

if you nt willing to pay $28, then you have to wait till davis finishes their elixer strings stock
and imports the new elixer strings with the anti-rust coating

Well, I was at SV Guitars yesterday and they have restocked a fresh batch - including the nanowebs for electrics and acoustics, which they didn't have previously.

Just a heads up! :)

i was at sv guitars 2 days ago, and sinemax. both didn't have phosphor bronze nanowebs, and both said they have no idea when new stocks are coming in. they had anti rust electric nanos and 80/20's nanos though, just no phosphor bronze!

good to know bgw is bringing them in now! :) better but a whole load of stock, never know when elixir is gonna cut production again.. haha

Hi guys!

I used to play D'Addario strings. They G, B and E strings rust pretty quickly and loses it's brightness pretty quickly. I do sweat quite a bit so I have to clean my strings after playing else they will rust. hehe

I recently started using Dark Horse Strings and I am loving it. They are not coated but they definitely last longer than the D' Addario's. For me they last for at least a month after much abuse! The strings also feel different. They have a certain "bounce" that I am loving. The tone is nice and balanced. The best part is they season very quickly and stays in tune well.

It's probably worth a shot to try out these MIA strings. http://www.darkhorsestrings.com/Electric-Guitar-Strings/Nickel-6-String-Electric-Guitar-Strings/flypage.tpl.html

You can get them in SG from here: http://samguitarmadness.webs.com/wildhorseelectric.htm

It's official, guys.

"We wanted to make you aware that our transition back to plain steel strings with Anti-Rust plating has been completed. Since early Spring, all Elixir® Strings POLYWEB® and NANOWEB® coated wound string sets for acoustic and electric guitars have contained plain steels with Anti-Rust plating.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Customer Excellence team at 1.800.367.5533 or email us at elixirstrings@wlgore.com.

What's the difference between original plain steels and plain steels with Anti-Rust plating?
Both provide excellent tone and long life. Anti-Rust's plating technology simply extends the life of the plain steels longer – by as much as 3-5x – by preventing rust and corrosion.

How will we know which packs contain original plain steels vs. Anti-Rust Plain Steels?
Check the front of your Elixir® Strings package. If the set has Anti-Rust Plain Steels, it will be indicated on the box on the lower right side of the front panel.

Will there be any other changes to NANOWEB ® or POLYWEB® wound string sets?
No. The only change is the transition back to the Anti-Rust Plain Steels as part of the NANOWEB® and POLYWEB® wound string sets. "

Don't let the salesman con you by saying without the anti-rust stamp it's still the same.

FINALLY! I can't stand the people from Music Theme. They insisted that, according to their agent, Elixirs are "not allowed to put anti-rust on the packaging since all things rust" and that they are being "sued" for it. Worst part is that he kept insisting. By that logic there is no difference between anti-rust and those without the label on the packaging because by that line of reasoning it is purely semantics and the product is identical when in fact THEY ARE NOT.

Elixir mentioned on TGP that it was a supply issue and another insider said that they found issues with the machine (traces of oxidation) and decided to halt the supply as it was unethical to sell under the moniker of 'anti-rust' when it was clear something was up. That caused them to source for other vendors. Well that was on another forum.

My non-anti-rust set lasted me for around 9 days before I felt that the strings were dying (harder to slide as it was not so smooth). In these past few weeks I think Coated Boomers have been the best as they lasted more than 2 weeks while Ernie Ball Titanium ones were absolute garbage. They lasted 2 hours into restringing before oxidizing (resistance to sliding, sediments along the G, B, e when the strings were still trying to maintain the stretch and not need occasional retuning). TWO HOURS.
