Hi, i wanted to get a single coil humbucker for my strat, changing my bridge pickup to the single coil humbucker. Been looking around n there's so many models in the market. Any recommendations?? Thanks!!!
For Heavy rock and humcancelling i would go with the Seymour Duncan Cool Rails/PATB Single Coil stack/Patb single coil stack.
Its a great combo for heavier styles of music.
Or if u want true single coils, Seymour SSL6/SSL2/APS2 (bridge to neck) for great versatility
I recommend (actually Mike of standardvalue told me at it) the Lace Holy Grails.
U still retain the single coil twang/quack and VERY quiet.
It cost me $295 for a set of 3.
I had it on my Morris strat...really liked the sound.
Now it's wif KC of Maestro for some re-fret job.
malmsteen's setup is really odd... he uses very very low output hum cancelling pups and a lot of overdrive through pedals... they work great cause its dead quite and sounds neat...
but for that u need good distortion/overdrive pedals to get a tone near his
medium/ low output pickups are more responsive to higher drive levels, be it from pedals/ amps. the great deception here is from EMG (or some other active units for that matter)- yes they are high output but it's because the low output pickups are boosted by a pre-amp circuitry before it reaches the amp.
bin4christ: i as someone said, malasteen uses low output hum cancelling pup.
well, if u have the same amp, pedals, racks as he does im sure it can sound close.
anyway for single coils i prefer single coil tone rather than stacked/single coil size humbuckers.
