Effects loop.

hihi people.
I have a very amateurish question.

Am I supposed to plug my multi effects into the effects loop at the back of my amp or do I plug the multi effects to the amp from the guitar input at the top, and plug my guitar into the multi effects unit?

Thanks all!

Just try both and hear for yourself which way sounds better to you. There isn't really a right or wrong answer here.

Can anyone please tell me more?
And if i plug it in at the back (effectslooop), which do i plug it in? effects send or effects return?

Ahh actually you can just plug it like this

Guitar -> Multi Fx ->efx send

thats it. this way u bypass the tone stack and just use the eq from your fx. 1 less cable also.

Correct me if im wrong.

That's generally the case as most multi-fx units are amp modelers but there are exceptions of course

wait. i thought "effects send" is an output?

so i would have thought its more like....

guitar->multi effects->effects return

"effects send" is an output

if we just look at it from the words, effect send is indeed output. But at all time, usually we be looking at effect return as well, which is the input. When theres an efx send, there will be an efx return to complete the loop. Thus the term, effect loop.

what it does is on google!

so, its been 1 year 6mths a lil bit from the thread started. Time passed fast

dude, i use a pod xt live and i set mine up this way Guitar>Pod XTL>effects Return. this bypasses the onboard eq and in most cases everything including the volume is controlled by your mutli efx. so the amp is just kinda like a PA.to me this is the best, as i want my patches to sound as they are when i set them without the intereference of the onboard eq of the amp. much easier. but do keep in mind, diff amp speakers produce different tones so it wont sound exactly the same as your amp at home even it you use the multi efx as the amp modeller.

if you use your multi-effect pedal for distortion, over drive or wah or compressor it may sound bad. Unless you're using amp distortion, or you have a tube amp that gives a nice natural overdrive, you should put your multi-effect pedal in front of the amp instead of putting your multi-effect in the effects loop.

what i dislike about multi effect pedals is that you either put all before the amp or all in the effects loop. single stompboxes ftw. (modulations in the effects loop) :D

Either way, just try both and choose the one which you prefer. There's no right or wrong answer to that question. Tone is relative.
