Edwards vs Gibson

I think it is time that Gibson company learn how to make better guitars from Edwards. I have been playing a few Gibson Les Paul both Customs and Standards. Last week I purchased an Edwards Les Paul and to my surprise the guitar is really good and reasonably priced.
Workmanship is good
Intonation and fret work is almost to perfection
The neck is as staight as an arrow
The guitar never goes out of tune
The tone is very good.
My Gibson Les Pauls are alway out of tune even without playing it. I tune the guitar and leave it for a few hours and it goes out of tune.I can never have a perfect intonation from a Gibson Les Paul.
I have two Epiphone Les Pauls from Japan and they are really good as Edwards.I had them since 1995 and the hardwares are still new wherelse my 3year old Gibson's hardwares are already tarnished and faded.
Any comments and disagreement?

well +1 to edwards.

I got to agree with u, in terms of quality and craftmanship. But the edwards can only par with std and custom. Gibson do have QC Inconsistent issues tho, u nd to play many to get the one. But if seeking a true gibson tone, then gibson it is!:)

Your post is a little late...

Anyways, Edwards makes a good LP clone. No contest on that.

Having said that, the new 2008 Standards and LP Traditionals are also no joke. They have upped their game.

And as for Guitars? I no longer own my Edwards. It's now with another forumer... Jony, I think. It's been replaced by my Slash Goldtop... This one has convinced me that Gibson (not Epiphone, nor Orville, nor Epi Japan) can still build a superior guitar.

Yes I've got the Edwards... It gives Gibson a good run for the money. No its not the same as a Gibson...

Be glad you've found something you like though. Maybe you can get some spare change by selling off the Gibson that isn't quite doing it for you ;)

All Gibson supporters

I am not saying Gibson is no good but for that price you and I are paying, it just not worth. Take a Gibson Les Paul Custom for example, it is selling between $4500 to $5000. Compare the workmanship and the cosmetic of it. The intonation is no good and if you send to the best set-up guy in town he will have to touch up the frets to perfect it. Why have to pay so much for a guitar and still have to spend money to improve the quality.Tone wise is person to person opinion. Please do not compare the Gibson Supreme with Edwards. The price difference is too big. I fully agree that in terms of tone, the Gibson Supreme is more superior than Edwards, but, if you tweak the amp properly they are not very far away.
Sorry for those Gibson sellers and owners, this is my own opinion therefore dont be angry with me.
Cheers.

backagain: Rubbish. YOU may think that it's not worth the cash, but there are thousands of people who think otherwise. Also, your sweeping statements are extremely unfair and false in the majority of cases. How can you possibly say Gibsons are not worth it because their "intonation is no good"?

I've owned both. Yes, there are Gibson dogs. Less so for Edwards. I've tried a lot of Gibsons before finding the right one. But when you finally find the RIGHT Gibson, and you won't even look at the Edwards.

For that, the price I paid? Totally worth it...

Again, try the 2008 standards and traditionals. With the new Plek system they invested in, you don't get crappy frets and intonation issues anymore.

Be open-minded.

80% of people who buy Gibson because they think they will sound like Slash, Jimmy Page or other well know guitarists. They are buying because Gibson is popular not because of it's quality. Gibson made before 1996 are good. I am sure you must be a Gibson owner. Let's be opened minded and play a Gibson,Epiphone,Oville,Edwards blind folded and see if you can tell the difference. Many people are buying Nike is because is branded and they feel that they can perform better. It's all Psychology.

^Statistics pulled out of the air don't prove anything. I would think that most people paying over 2000 dollars for a guitar would know a thing or two about what they're getting. A Gibson is hardly "impulse buy" fodder. And again with the generalizations. You saying Gibsons made after 1996 are crap? And yes I'm a Gibson owner, a derogatory title judging by the tone of your response.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about it being "all psychology". Sure, Gibson has made a name for itself in the guitar world, and people have the tendency to lean towards the big names, but what do you think got them there? Give me a good Gibson and I sure as hell can tell the difference between that and the other brand names you listed. Now I have nothing against the other brands, me owning an Epiphone and loving it too. But I just find it ridiculous that you label all Gibsons as being barely on par with them.

you should be the open minded one. you got a shit gibson, face it. the oxidation and stuff, its natural. its how you maintain your gear.
edwards, and all copies derive from gibson, give gibson its due respect, and what whitestrat says is so true. before you create such threads, think more.

TS you need to check your ears. A Gibson IS a Gibson. Full stop.

Maybe your complaints about the tone is because of your amp? -_- Oh well, maybe buy more pedals! Buy all the accessories. Stack all you want :P

I still think a real guitar, regardless of any effects/pedals, should sound good just the way it is (clean).

+1 for Edwards, they are really well constructed guitars, i;ve played edwards before and it felt Solid in terms of construction.

definately worth the money if you are looking for a PROPER guitar without the name

But a Gibson is still a Gibson. just saying that edwards are good guitars for the money
