Eczema, anyone?

Anyone here has eczema? I do and it's quite problematic especially with the bad weather. The skin on my finger cracked and bled, so it's hard to play the guitar (thankfully it's not on my fretting hand, can't imagine blood on the strings...what the heck...)

How do you cope? I blame the weather for this.

i had ezcema since i was born. it got better ever since i've found out what triggered it. usually nuts and seafood (prawn).

one thing that i always do is to force myself to eat the things that makes me flare up. imagine how bad it was, i forced myself to eat peanuts. make sure you have loratidine (or some kinda anti-histamine/anti-allergen, can get from polyclininc) before you do it, sometimes it can get bad. but now i can safely say that peanuts don't make me flare up much anymore. heh.

i love prawn too (i'm those kind eat prawn shell and head also). so i force myself again lah. in the end flare up, stomach bloated, etc etc but now my skin is better again.

keep your dermasone close to you. this cream, you can get in big tub frm skin center. polyclinics will only give it to you in tubes. private doctors will give it to you in those lousy small containers (and charge you damn ex for it). so best choice is to go polyclinic and get referral to skin center and then stock up.

the weather screws up the skin too lah. but now rainy season not so bad leh? few weeks ago during the hot season my fingers would crack and bleed just from typing on laptop. quite miserable, i guess.
oh yeah, if you have ezcema, keep it clean. make sure you don't get fungal as well. i've had that before (ezcema AND fungal) and it was fucked. affects your nails and causes skin discolouration. of course, this will all disappear when its over lah.

i hope you don't have ezcema on your fretboard hand. that must really hurt..

Fight poison with poison by overloading yourself with what triggers the allergy?

My elbow, thankfully not on my fingers. But for my picking hand, yes, on my finger...*sigh*

i pity absynthe.

Yeah, I know...bloated stomach, must've been really terrible. I know of another classmate back then who also had skin problem and she's always wearing a jacket. Sensitive skin.

I wonder if going for a prick test will work...

I do have an appointment with Skin Centre. At first it was better, then as the weather got worse, so did my skin. Used to be on steroid pills to relief the itch and for a 'temp' cure as prescribed by the private doctor. Then I read up more and realised the steroids will only cause side effects despite the fact that it heals (for a specific time line), so I decided to consult the skin centre instead.

1. Find out the triggers and avoid them.
2. Keep skin moisturized (urea cream is good), esp after you wash hands/shower etc. Watch out for cream with additives.
3. Steroid cream when it gets bad. Watch where you apply it.
4. Watch the soap you use - can cause dryness. As with detergent etc.
5. Antihistamines good when you are really itchy.
6. Oral steroids last alternative. Never use long-term.

Do you have asthma?

I have eczema on the back of my knees. It got better after some medication, but after I stopped applying it, it came back :(

haha, thats the reason why i rarely wear pants/shorts out, cos the back of my knee gets super itchy and bleeds when i start to sweat and scratch.

Eczema sucks if it was on the fretting hand. It will be really hard to play.

You can avoid it by getting enough rest, watching your diet and keeping the affected areas clean and moisturised.

Fellow eczema victim here.

I went to the national skin center and they prescribed me with Cetaphil moisturizer and Elomet to stop the icthing. You can get Cetaphil off the shelfs but elomet is a prescription drug. The Cetaphil is pretty good for dry skin and the elomet works wonders for the itchiness.

Hope this helps you out

How's your condition now? Is it a lot better?

Any of you guys have eczema so bad your finger bleed when the skin cracks and stuff? It's happening to my right hand's ring finger right now...God...*ugh*

I don't have eczema but my best gal friend does and since there's no real cure for this condition, the main thing is to always keep the skin moisturized. And yeah, Cetaphil is apparently good. Also, be wary of soap content in body wash products.

Mine got better after medication from the dermatologist, who prescribed some moisturizing cream. After it got better I stopped applying it.

AND NOW IT'S BACK! :(

Yeah, you have to be very consistent in keeping your skin moisturized. Unless you're in a cooler country then it wouldn't be that bad.

I think it's a good idea to moisturize yourself at least once every three days.

There are lots of reasons that causes your skin to dry up.

I can tell u, when it itches, IT REALLY DOES ITCH.
and somehow when u know if u scratch it, its gonna get worse.
but u cant control.
