Earplugs

Hey,
I'm a student and I'm looking for earplugs to use when I'm drumming.
Preferably of not a high price range. Also, need to know where to get them. Thanks!

Uhm, they shouldn't cancel all noise entirely, preferably about 50% so when I drum I still can hear the backing track etc.

oops, could a mod transfer my thread into the correct one? thanks.

Hmm seems this subject was brought up i might as well ask now. coz honestly i do not know the use of this earplugs and how they work.. the onli time i drum is at school where i dont drum for very long hrs and in quite large areas..

So do the earplugs block out majority of the sound, causing the sound to be softer? and do we onli need the earplugs when drumming in small areas where echo is 'heavy'?

Sorry abt dis qns =X im still considered a newbie

Kinda. There are earplugs designed for musicians, and there are earplugs designed to block out general noise. Obviously you want to avoid using the latter.

It's not just about the size of the space. If you think about it, the distance from your ears to your snare and cymbals is not very far. If you're playing loud music, that's good enough reason to wear them.

ETY•Plugs™ (ER•20 High Fidelity Earplugs)...reduce noise but preserve sound quality; in effect, to turn down the noise but not muffle voices, environmental sounds or music.

weckl-x is correct.....When me wify screams at me - I used the General ones (to clock out as much noise as possible)...but when I play Music...I still need to hear the rest of the Musicians...so I will use those that are (mean't for Musicians) - - for drummers especially...when you are playing Rock Music.....cannot tahan.

Hi so you are staying in Jurong also - me too. Magnimas...Try to play louder (and you will be using ear-plugs) ... what follows is -- - Neighbours starts to complain .... then buy them those $2.00 one.

Yes my Home is the HDB one- not the LakeShore Condominium...Kekekekeke...so it's Behind...nice meeting you..you should go to the Drum Xchange it's good.

Hey bro i'm about to have a pair custom made at Widex Hearing Centre@Cantonment Road, going the custom route would also be another worthy option as such custom ear molds help to replicate natural sound as much as possible while greatly decreasing the volume. However, the cost should be many times the amount of conventional ear plugs. Perhaps even in the 200 dollar price range. But still, these should be able to last you a good number of years. Just something else to consider, cheers!

hey just a suggest from what i did myself..

i use to use the yellow foam ear plugs too but then found them blocking out too much noise..

then i tried using those industrial ear muffs and found thempretty good! i use them both at home ( my drums are in a very small room so sound reflection is woosh) and also use them at jamming studios. In jamming studios i find that with it i can pick up my bassist's notes more clearly due to added mass around my ears, but lose out a bit on high end pitches, which too me bass notes is more important so its not an issue.

also u can just use normal ear piece connected to a mp3 player or a metronome, then wear the ear muffs over and u can jam/ practice along! hearing both the sounds/click and also your playing pretty well! its like a DIY Headphones but so must cheaper haha

btw the ear muffs cost only 10 bucks haha

mine look exactly like this

hope i helped =) i live jurong too btw haha

oo? i din noe u can put the mp3 earpiece n overlap wif earplugs?.. LOL thats cool! haha! heh din noe jurong so many drummers? =X

I wear in ear earpiece. Did great job. I used the I-Luv . But its a pity some jamming studio don't allow earpiece or earplug. They claim later you play too loud. -,-
