Dunlop Crybaby Classic

deathism, please.. no more pictures... there was a period of time in SOFT where pictures were the craze... messy and ridiculous. :(

In anycase, I think a "discussion" is a better term.

its funny how juz a simple question can cause such a argument..

i wonder what if a picture is used instead (a picture is worth a thousand words)..

Simple, because it's not one question. Look up the next 50 pages, you'll see a lot of these.

This is going to be my last post on this thread. I don't see the point of engaging in further argumentation. I did my little part already. If you feel strongly about something, do something about it.

ultimately, i think its all a matter of putting yourself in different shoes and looking at the issues from various angles.

i have been a softie for quite some time and surf this website numberous time everyday. though i do not participate actively in the forum, i really appericiate the information this forum provides me with.

frankly speaking, recently i also got pretty frustrated by the 'which burger should i get issue'.

actually there is another issue that makes me even more 'pek chek'. its when people ask 'eh guys, what do you think, analogue or digital pedals?'

that newbie might be very sincere when asking this question, however, we should all bear in mind that its difficult to express emotions with just words in the cyberworld. no one can see/sense the sincerity, and i dont think we can blame anyone for assuming its just another lazy question.

however, its possible to show sincerity. if the newbie had done some basic research, he can talk about what he knows at the moment, and share with fellow softies his research and point of view first.

or at the very least, i think one should state what he really wants to know exactly. and i am not expecting a thesis here, what i am referring to is just a more detailed question (at the most basic level).

not start a thread asking analogue or digital? and expect people to explain.

the fact is, when we ask a question on this forum, or in any situation in life, we are asking for help from others. and i think the most basic courtesy is to show you are sincere in posing the question. no doubt its tricky to define sincerity in the cyberworld, but its possible, which is by showing people you have at least tried to find out some information.

HOWEVER, ON THE OTHER HAND, i got this story to share.

recently, i got very interested to pick up photography. and my friend introduced me to the website of this photography community in singapore.

www.clubsnap.com

the website also hosts a forum and i would say that forum is much more active compared to soft. the posts there gets flushed down super fast. good deals in the buy/sell section come and go in a matter of minutes.

there are some burning *newbie*questions that i would love to ask.

for example, what is the differences between nikon and canon? which one is better? how does XYZ camera compares to ABC camera? where do i get the cheapest DSLR camera in singapore?

but i figured, these questions had probably been discussed to death in that forum. i tried to do a search, but all the posts were super messy and even if i find a thread, i might not understand some of the jargons used. and they would talk about brands of lens, camera body, and shops which i never heard in my entire life before.

for muscial needs, we got sweelee. in photgraphy, their giant is cathay photos. they bring in all the big names but i never heard about cathay photos till recently.

so yea, my point being, as a newbie, the load of information in a forum which you never been to can be scary. this is especially relevant if the genre is something you know absolute nuts about.

and think about it, is it easier to create an account and post a question online, or is it easier to call the shop or walk into the shop and ask?

i would say ask a question online. in the cyber world, we can hide behind our cyber-nick identity. in reality, a shop keeper might shun you because you look like a poor boy who is just asking. i would feel paiseh to go cathay photo to ask them about their cameras that cost 3K, or get them to explain what is the difference between the 2 cameras. because i am not ready to buy yet, i am just finding out more.

sometimes, people are paiseh to call and ask or go into the shop to ask also. it can be quite intimidating for a newbie.

so yea, i have presented my 2 sides of the story.

thanks for reading my long winded entry i guess.

:D
