Dual delay users

I just picked up a dd-3 to add to my board which already has a de7.

How many of you run two delays together and what do you use them for? I know dual delays can be dailed in to get reverb-like effects but I'm not too sure how the settings on the pedals should be like. Care to share settings or any other advice? Thanks!

I have a dd20 and a korg 301d on my board. My 301d is modded to have a flange in the delay only loop and I usually set it for a medium delay with many repeats, which I use for volume swells. The dd20 is set before that, and it helps to have some slight delay on the dd20 which evens out the swells.

Another way I use both together is to have a shorter delay on the first one and a longer delay on the second one, which gives rhythmic repeats.

If you have a pedal with a buffer before it, and one after it, you could try splitting the signal into 2 into the 2 delays, running them into parallel before joining them back to the next pedal. This is a poor man's mixer and gives you the option of parallel delays. For example, a dotted eight and an eight delay at the same time. This is what people used to call multi-delay, which nowadays is an misused term.

Very interesting ideas. I've been toying around with the idea of modulating the delayed signal but I figured that required some sort of 'two 1/4' in, one 1/4' out' because of the lack of effects loop in both the de7 and dd-3.

Like dry output -> amp, then wet output -> chorus/trem/flange -> amp. Would this be similar to using a delay unit that has a effects loop that effects the delayed signal only?

The multi-delay thing you mentioned is very new to me. I would love to try that out. Thanks for opening up my mind!

+1 to theblueark. very interesting........

I have two delays on my board too, my H20 which gives a echo like effect and a dd3. the h2o is more subtle and less in the way so i use it more as a reverb type effect. i play alot of palm muted and chugga chugga kinda stuff so i cant afford to let delay get in the way of things and muddy up the sound or the tightness of each chug is lost. the h2o's subtle nature is thus perfect for that application. For solos, i kick in the added dd-3, set to long delay with minimum number of repeats. (go figure why)

hmm, i guess i application of delays is rather basic......am interested in the concept of tap tempo tho but the dd-20 is just overkill for me.....am waiting for the new DD7 to kick the dd3 off my board. heh:)

i use 2 delay at times. One delay is get to get a attackless swelling droney sound while the other to lengthen it.

one delay will be in the loop of the parallel mixer while the other will be after the mixer.

delay in the loop be usually magicstomp while outside the loop be either headrush or dl4

parallel mixing be done via foot pedal.

other than droney thingy, the parallel blending of delay signal is rather trippy at times from some patches within the magicstomp when blending normal/modulated/rhythmic delay with another delay

another thing to do at times, is to have dual parallel mixing/blending of 2 delay with 3rd delay in series. The blending with different delay timing among the 2 delay with the 3rd in series, can be used to do some indulgence related melody. Another good thing, having one delay in self oscillation within one of the loop, its possible to fade in and out the oscialltion without getting it outta hand and playing over this oscillation...

i use a vintage ibanez ad9 for slapback and a line6 echo park in an effects loop for normal delay. sometimes i set my ps-2 to delay in between to get really long multiple delay sounds or oscillate the ad9 and use the ps-2 for delay and the echo park to set tempo.

i use digidelay and dd-6 in series. digidelay for the modulated mode and dd-6 for warp mode, glitchy sounds or reverse.

somehow, i can't imagine myself playing without 2 delays (or more)!

might replace the digidelay for a dd-7 in the future for the external tap tempo and 40 secs of looping time.

wow pathein, you are truly an effects guru. I can get the first few lines. But everything on the last paragraph, wah wo pu ning pai ler!!

Looks like most of you are waiting for the dd7. I too might be tempted to sell both my delays to get it.
