hi i am wondering if you guys can tell me what is the difference among 2b, 5a, 5b, 2s, etc etc sticks? im rather curious but i can't find any info on the net xD hmm are they different in diameter or in length or? and are the differences types (2b, 5a, etc) standard in every model (promark, vicfirth, etc)?

Some sticks have an "A" designation and some have a "B". What does that mean?
Many years ago, the "A" indicated Orchestra meaning that stick was suitable for orchestral uses. The "B" stood for Band, indicating it was suitable more for a dance band application. The "S" stood for Street, meaning parade or marching use. Those designations, while still in use (2B, 5A, 5B, 7A, 2S for example), don't really mean anything anymore. Drummers today enjoy many more choices of sticks for given applications. While there are certainly some exceptions, generally there is no direct relationship between the size of a stick and its model number.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] A stands for orchestral, or symphonic style of music, therefore narrower necks and small beads for quieter style of playing. B stands for Band, therefore needing more neck and bead size to perform within a louder and larger performing group. S stand for street, or marching band style of performing, therefore a thick diameter stick for projection and volume needs.

Hope this helps. ;)

hey thanks =) ! actually i managed to find sm info last night. that the greater the number, the narrower and hence the lighter the sticks. (for e.g. 7a, compared to 5a) but i wonder if the size of every type of drumsticks (e.g. 7a) would be standard for each model (pro-mark)? or is it that for certain models of stcks would be longer/shorter?
