Drumstick tape/ Drumstick wax

Hi guys,

drum newbie here. Not too sure how many of you are facing or have faced the same problem as me. Soemtimes when I start playing or practicing, my hands become extremely sweaty. And at other times, especially when I am playing in an air-conditioned room, my hands become very dry and smooth. Both these scenarios cause my drumsticks to slip out of my hands, and at times they even fly off!

I've been surfing around and realised that some companies like Ahead and Zildjian do sell drumstick tape and wax to prevent this. Would any of you know where I can get this in Singapore. If not, what are some alternatives to these products. I was thinking of using the tennis racket handle tape as an alternative. Would this help?

Humbly awaiting for your advice.

Cheers!!

I'm using the promark stick rapps. Provides quite abit more grip and comfort. Adds some bounce too. :D Supposedly reuseable although the ones on my current pair of sticks seem to be wearing out already. :(

Hi All,

got the promark wraps over the weekend and i must say, it really does help. My hits are alot more consistent now as I do not have to re-adjust my drumsticks when my hands become wet.

Must have for drummers with sweaty or extremely dry hands!

Cheers

hey man, i think it has to do with ur grip. i think ur probably using a wrong tech when ur holding ur sticks, or u need to work on ur strokes more before hitting the drumset

For me, i use my thumb and my first finger to hold the drumstick and the rest of my fingers and palm to support. I think your problem might be as what blurred said, you're probably using the wrong technique. I'm guessing you're holding the sticks with your whole palm, and when your palm gets sweaty, the sticks will naturally fly off.

i second the last comment... i had that sorta problem, but my teacher corrected it... professional drummers can sometimes be seen using gloves for such as ur problem... thats one of the reason only though... also if u still have problems with sweaty hands, u should try to solve this problem... i also been learning the tabla for 6 years and if we have sweaty palms, u cant play properly... so its like we powder our hands properly and quite constantly and trust me, ur problem will disappear... hope it works for u...

and if u need any of that stuff like tape and wax, i think the best place is either swee lee or that drum technique shop in peninsula...
