hi all,
ima newbie drummerand i was wondering what does the sizes of the drum components affect?(eg. 14" crash) if i get a smaller one or a bigger one what will the difference be?

help much apprciated :D

u tokin in the case of cymbals or toms? say u r comparing the same cymbal model, larger diameters giv the cymbal longer sustain and make them sound darker (but louder)

in terms of toms (comparing same model toms), naturally the larger diameter the lower it will sound, if it doesnt somethings very wrong. the more no. of plies in the shells (again comparing same material and thickness of plies), the more prjcted the tom will be

erm 14" is usually a high-hat size? it varies greatly. lets say a 10" splash? the sound is short and soft. a 16" crash will be loud and the sound will have a shimmering effect. a 20" ride usually cant be crashed. they all have different effects.

bigger snares will have a more lasting and stronger effect than the smaller one. but i dont think the size of the drumset affects much unless you're talking about a junior set like the yamaha type.

I was at baybeats, the chillout stage.
They had zildjian's on right? They looked something like 14 inchers.
damn small but sounded quite powerful.. maybe because of the mics.
I heard that the power house stage used paistes. probably sigs.
