drum cases

so, im starting to move my drums around a bit more and i feel they could do with some protection rather than just being placed in the car.

so, my feeling are solid plastic cases are the best but they are also pretty expensive.

so im really just asking what are ure experiences with the different types
hardcases and the materials ones

thanks :D

I use cheap soft cases (Premier & Gator) which then go into "Hardcases" - usually need to go for a Hardcase which is 1 inch or so larger for the smaller drums so that can accommodate the softcases. Its a more expensive solution, but not as expensive as damaged drums. For hardware use a Protection Racket case with wheels.

Soft case inside hardcase... Man... that is really hardcore! But i must say a very safe way to move drums around.

Just a suggestion, will it be more cost effective by using thick sponge to cushion the smaller drums when putting into the hardcase? Its a tad tricky for bassdrum due to the weight and size, not as convenient as using softcase... but should be cheaper, right? In so doing, only need to spend extra on bassdrum by getting soft and hardcase.

It's just a suggestion... hopefully will be of help to some guys...

Shagg must have a pretty nice kit to protect it like that :) I would probably do the same if I gigged with an expensive kit.

lummer: Hardcases usually do come with foam inserts already. Some have smaller pieces at strategic points, while others (like the newer SKBs) have more padding all around the inside.

Ah... that's great... but what i mean is on top of that use sponge to wrap your drums before putting it in... kaisu abit...

ye my neighbours drum teacher uses soft cases then hardcases :D

what i think my plan will probably be is get some soft cases, and in the event of people starting to take my kit places in vans rather than me being able to be careful with it, start to buy hardcases

because atm, i still use a fairly low standard entry level kit (yamaha rydeen)
so its not exactly the most expensive kit to keep safe

and when i get a new snare and stuff, buy a hardcase to protect it

im gonna buy a hardcase cymbal case as ive found a site where they are £10???? is that cheap?

Another option is custom-made flight cases.

Nice... I have that made for my snare... Great stuff... very solid! referring to the snare case, its really very heavy to move it around if you do not have wheels on it and for those who doesn't drive... Its gonna take some effort to move around...
