Hi everyone 8)

with the increasing number of overdrive discussions going on here, thought that we share our likes/ dislikes/ recommendations/ of an overdrive unit we'd use as a booster (for our primary drive source, from the amp or otherwise). do note that the rule-all overdrive pedal is a more realistic manifestation of our personal preference which should not be a subject of militant influence...

hopefully, the poll here would give some indications to the distributors as to the hotter items in demand... if you choose boutique/ others, do share the specifics (i'm beginning to smell the Om Sahasrara prescriptions...)

Guitar volume knob as drive on an overdriven amp .... 8)

OHmeegoshh ...i am starting to be like you sub 8O

i dunno if i'm being hypocritical here- but i really prefer my guitar + amp set up despite owning several drive pedals... :smt011

For ODs/Distortion, I use the Zvex BOR, FOXROX ZIM and the MI AUDIO Crunch Box extensively. I also feel that the MI Audio Blues Pro is awesome at what it does.

Why do I use them instead of relying on the amp's gain channels?

Because I have a liking for the Roland Jazz chorus series of amps and they are easily rent-able for gigs and etc. Furthermore, I own a JC 60 which I use to tweak my board before I leave for gigs or jam sessions.

Why Bootik?( they may not be that bootik, but just generally speaking)

After trying out most of the stock (Boss, Ibanez ,etc) and modded pedals in the category of Drives and Dist, I find that the pedals i use now really sound the best for me, and believe me, i've been through alot of pedals during my OD/Dist search. I still own many of the pedals that I have bought, but there's something about bootik stuff, I dunno, it could be just the hype, that makes a significant difference to me.

Oh well. :D

sub: but thats cause you own great guitars right?
i have no idea, but edder's sahasrara really deserves everyone's vote... judging from the many people who own it..
(though i have not tried it, but if i have the money i'll definitely make it my primary OD.. tts how much i trust the reviewers, haha)

great is really subjective... is my Indonesian sub-$500 Ibanez great? wouldn't want to start this dichotomized discussion...

however, great tone, after years of playing, is more about the amplifier...

or sub... maybe i should rephrase as... a lot of guitars?
but for the gigging players with just 1 or 2, pedals definitely.. u cant lug a mesa around the world strapped onto your back right?

im with the 2 ODs too. one for lead and one for pushing it further should the need arise. rhythm tone with the amp's gain and guitar's volume knob. i still only got 1 OD though, still looking for a boost or a full on OD, so now im mainly using fuzzes for solos because of the singing sustain they have.

-> keithC: or sub... maybe i should rephrase as... a lot of guitars?

he he... doesn't matter bro; many guitars through 1 lousy amp, doesn't make a diff... 8)

I'm currently using 3 OD...RAT2, Keeley TS-9DX Flexi 4x2 and Crunch box. Mix and match to taste  Sometimes I combine RAT2 with TS9 while other times I dig the Crunch box + TS9 combo...

Currently in the process of acquiring a RC Booster for fine-tuning/boost. A little overkill to have like 4 drive pedals but I often feel that one drive pedal is not enough for certain applications and mixing ODs for your own unique blend of sound is interesting :P Heck I might even consider putting back my old MT-2 which I previously used as a boost

Hey!!! Roland JC!!! I love that amp! It's one of the most neutral amps ever! That's why it's pretty maleable. Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks like that!

On the other note, I'd highly recommend the MI Tubezone OD for you guys to check out. It's pretty nice. The controls are very dynamic, the tone is very analog, and the pedal is CHROME! whahaha... (bimbo alert!)

I have the crunch box, but it's no where as versatile as the OD. I use the crunch box for rhythms, and the OD for leads.

aiya.. either way, must spend so much...
many guitars+ good amp $ > 1 guitar many pedals.. ??

Depends on your needs.

Pedals afford variety as well as portability. Not as expensive as an amp.

Huh? No as expensive as an amp?

Yeah. Engl... Mesa... etc etc even stuff like Fender/Marshall/Vox... 1k? A couple hundred?

wasabe19, yes I own a mudhoney and I'm lovin it lots...the distortion is as sweet as honey, and silky/smooth as mud! hehe

Yes Roland JC's are so predictable and pedal-friendly!

Low Maintenance too! Great Cleans! :D
