I beg to differ. I would consider Awake one of their best releases. LOTS of heavy guitar and melodic solos, with a beautiful ballad 'space-dye vest', to close the album.
anyone here digs 'Wait For Sleep' from Images and Words album,
beautiful ballad with good simple piano works.

it's a Kevin Moore's song

my top dt album has to be either Images and Words or SFAM:M2.......like some of u guys here, i also wondered if DT would replace James....but then again the band might find that his singing suits their composition? it's like saying what if Skid Row replaced Sebastian Bach :( you can replace another great vox...but what if it's like vai replacing petrucci in dt, i don't think it'll appeal to me anymore cos "feeling" not there.

imo i think all the keys guys on their albums are great...just diff styles. can't wait for octavarium to be out!

six degrees is a really awesome album imo...right up there with images, scenes, and awake as my favourites..in no order of preference.

least fav would have to be train of thought.

Derek was initially supposed to be a sessionist for DT's gigs as they didnt want to cancel the tours after the news of Kevin leaving the band...
Rite after Kevin left, DT went on to audition for a new keys player and was shortlisted with two guys, Jordan Rudess and Jens Johansson(Stratovarius).. So they went with Jordan BUT Jordan was bz with Dreggs back and couldnt commit then so they had to hire a sessionist for the tours..
Sometimes I wonder was Kevin Moore (1st DT keyboardist) ask to leave?
Having heard Chroma Key albums, Moore music influence certainly somehow differs from John Petrucci and the rest of the band, was this guy ask to leave to bring in someone with a harder edge in music influence?

Nope... Kevin was never asked to leave the band. It was Kevin's own decision to do so cause he was more interested in doing a solo project than be in a band outfit, resulting a drift in relations between him and the rest of DT. Infact the rest of DT fet quite a blow to hear abt Kevin's decision as Kevin contributed alot during to songwriting during his yrs with DT and was a core member of the band.. Plus Kevin was JP's gd friend eversince they were high school... It was a sad moment for DT and their fans when Kevin announced his depature... :smt085

i only wondering...

anyway Chroma Key can never replace what Moore contributed in DT.
wherever solo project concern, can't meet the band success

Speaking of DT, I think DT should stick to DT songs.

Anybody heard DT's cover of Master of Puppets?

Guitar was great, keyboard was great, but the singing....

u must have downloaded it off the net. u naughty naughty boy. but anyway i downloaded one song, i 4got its name but its really really sad. its not dream theater. its not even progressive. i say its a major letdown, at least that song is. and the part with the dj thing...thats is so bad.

It's supposedly to be out in stores today, June 5, the offical release date. Quite a disappointment for the old prog fans. Thanks.
