Dream Theater have completed work on their 8th full length studio album entitled "OCTAVARIUM" which is tentatively set for release through Atlantic Records on June 7th, 2005.

The track listing is as follows:

The Root Of All Evil
The Answer Lies Within
These Walls
I Walk Beside You
Panic Attack
Never Enough
Sacrificed Sons
Octavarium

interesting summer event...

i've nothing against the Ernie Ball Petrucci plays these days, but the overall tone is less slick than the ones in Metropolis/ Images & words (personal fav...)

I just bought the "Live At Budokan" DVD.

A bit disappointed with the track listing, but the Instrumental Medley is absolutely fantastic - Petrucci is good of course, but Jordan Rudess is just amazing. Haven't watched all the extras yet.

Anyone know what is on the screen that Rudess has above his workstation? It looks like some score or something.

Weird enough this time round the album's direction/style is a big hush hush as the band is not disclosing anything abt it. Even during Myung's clinic here, he kept a tight lit on it. Hmm... :?

How I wish the DVD had Glass Prison, that is one great song to watch them play esp the instrumental break part. Killer... The screen thingy is a score/settings displays for Rudess. Just watch the bonus stuff and he'll explain everything. The documentary IMO is super gd shit and just watch the part where Petrucci plays the Yamaha training guitar. Thats some funny shit~!

Yep its a musical score which he can touch. i mean, he can touch the screen to change stuff. Its all explained in the EXTRAS section

cant wait for the launch man. btw SUB did u try the jpmm. id haf to say its pretty amazing for a guitar. with peizo n the neck is really amazing. unfinished. only thing i didnt like abt it was the terrible sparkle colour but other than tt it played like a dream. only thing is i abhor from buying signature model guitars.

have u seen petrucci's effects board 8O ? the guy's nuts man... i mean, each song having its own preset n eq... n him bein able to remember all of it... even isolated himself with his bud juz to come up wif the whole damn thing... really crazy...

Keeping in mind u have never heard them before I would go in this order:

1. Images & Words (2nd album)
2. Metropolis Pt II: Scenes From a Memory (5th album)
3. Change of Seasons (their EP which was intended for I&W)
4. Awale (3rd album)
5. When Day and Dream Unite (1st album with a diff singer)
6. Falling To Infinity (4th album)
7. Train of Thought (7th album)
8. Six Degress of Inner Turbulence (6th album)

Once u check them all out be sure to listen to it in chronological order again cause a few tracks has a continous storyline to it...

the one with spirits carries on. is that images and words or scenes from a memory. not sure. get the dvd. better. learn to appreciate them even more.

Thats from Metropolis Pt II: SFAM... IMO its best to listen to the albums first to get the "wow, how do they play that?" then watch their live videos to admire the virtuosity of DT and say "wow.. so thats how its played.."

for starters, listen to this song called "Stream of consciosness" really great instrumental to me. love it alot.

i'm still listening to the awake album. major kickass.

james sang like he didn't need his voice after the making of that album.

falling into infinity's good too; very commercial.
