well I got my dreadlocks for few months now. Do not believe on bees wax scum it actually prevents your hair from locking. you can only see them clean due to wax but it will be wear off after awhile. Do not go to thailand just to do dreadlocks. their method is "crochet methods". it will actually damage your hair and will hook you up to endless maintenance.
1 more thing crochet dreadlocks tend to loose after few hours and you will see hairs popping out from your dreads and it doesn't look nice.

if you really want to dread your hair. you really need to have patience. you got to start back combing your hair twist and roll it with your palm.
dread does not happen in 1 night only. it's a long process. you may not want to wash your hair until it locks by itself. another option is to use a non residue soap or shampoo. other people do use ACV and Baking Soda natural shampoo its kinda famous. natural dreads really worth looking. more soft than crochet instant dreads. i had dreadlocks before. kept them for six month until i got tired of the maintenance. it is very troublesome to sleep and wash.
my dreads were done using the crochet method. i had no problem with mine. just need to get it tightened once every month. it grows well if you dont keep on scratching. i used to go to jb to get it tightened. got it done at a road side rastafarian/surfer shop. its only 50rm per session. and if you want to get a whole head done, with or without extensions, might hit 300rm. you can bargain with the fella. he is really good.

dont believe what people say about dreads smelling or too hot or whatsoever. mine was clean. i wash it thrice a week though.
just need to refrain from scratching and you will be fine.
