Its pessismists like u(hyper_punk) that hinder the developments of our local music scene.
and yea everyone is entitled to their 2 cents, but pls do abuse it .
use it to post something more worthwhile then just "birded singer suck"

Local bands can make it except that have no oppotunities. Very few bands have matured into playinf Funk, Fusion mixtures and Jazz. You think anyone is gonna make it big just by playing rock and punk?
So what if they invited to play in a recording studio? They come in with their funny dressings and act like big shots and do not know the meaning of humility. Personally, if ur a rock/punk/alt band in SG. Don't think by relying on that genre u can make it big. There are enough commercial bands to do that and they do well on international charts. Our music needs to mature into something different. One ex is The Observatory. They're different in style and have a greater chance of being noticed by international record Producers. You gotta stand out by being different. Few Local Producers who often mix themselves also do poor mixes yet they are too proud like many players in the industry to see their mistakes.
We can only producer "super" ppl like Steph Sun, Ho Yeow Sun, AH Do, Urban Exchange. No local band has made in big yet. If u wanna stick yo your genes, pray hard or go overseas with your music. Ppl here aren't likely to buy it.
ONLY WHEN YOU MADE IT BIG OVERSEAS AND INTERNATIONALLY, THAN YOUR MUSIC GETS PLAYED HERE AND NOTICED.
Local bands are not matured in the recording field. Sure we have tons of gigs but are we going anywhere with it? Heck, we'll been stuck here and propbably will be unless we sell our music overseas. Locally, no market will sell it. Try going to HMV and sell ur CD. See whether they will buy! U have to make it big overseas than ppl here will actually bother to buy or download your stuff. I'm frustrated too with all the crap abt local bands hoping to make it big but face it. THERE IS NO LOCAL MARKET. TAKE YOUR MUSIC OVERSEAS. FORGET SINGAPORE.

i finally agree with someone in this forum. everything he said was absolutely correct. Your music, should span all genres and you SHOULD NOT stay in Singapore. go to other countries and experience the music there, and how the real musicians work. Singaporeans can't really thrive in any society, for our society is based on saddistic ways of treating people and how we make people feel bad for what they are doing. The government DOES not want us musicians to succeed. sure there's all these schools and other places you can do music. but other than that anyone who wants to make it big has a long uphill struggle against the way society plays us down. They want us to be normal, can't gamble, can't stay out too late, can't be a real musician without getting the hell out of this country. dear friends, rock and roll is about "sticking it to the man". it being the middle finger, or your thoughts. don't tell me i cant say birded sucks. dont tell me i cant say singapore music scene is crap. this isn't anarchy, it's democracy. you can say what you want. but at the end of the day this is a thread about me, and it's a super popular one, and i'm getting the limelight. thank you so much.
not sure about that one.. probably that's the way we work.. putting academics careers first blah blah, and that kind of causes us to neglect certain areas? but b4 we even blame anyone, maybe we can evaluate our own music. would you be willing to pay for the music you produce? if you do, good for ya. if not, that's the whole point i m trying to make down here..

the reason why indonesia and the philiphines have a much more thriving scene is because their gahmens enacted some law in which, they have to allocated quite a significant airtime to their local musicians.
There is a law signed in 1987 by Cory mandating as law that all Philippine radio stations play at least four original philipino music songs an hour
