Donating instruments to orphanages/homes

Does fellow softie here have any experiences with donating used instruments to orphanages?

I have an old drumset condition is not very good, but it plays alright. Was thinking of donating it away as opposed to throwing it away. Would the orphanages want a drumset that is not in good condition? Or would they be offended thinking I treat their establishment as a junkyard or something?
Any advice?

the least u can do is you refurbish it and make sure that it looks decent and works well before donating. that is, what i feel, is basic courtesy when donating anything.

yeaaa man i feel like donating my amp.

woww man i thought someone(not me, im too lazy) can organise a donation drive, not donate cash, but musical instruments! maybe some pros here can organise free music clinics for the orphans or anyone!
