Do you buy cd's or download from bands you listen to?

well i was sharing photoshop on limewire without knowing it becuase limewire is a sneaky program. its discreeet with your uploads so you dont know unless you specifically check them.

the usage and downloading is already liable to the warning..and yeah..excessive downloading makes u even more liable to fine and imprisonment...

i'll download something to check it out but if i really like it, meaning i would like to hear another album from the artist, then i'll buy the CD. if you don't support the artists you like, they don't make money, how are they going to release another album?

most of the time though, new artists don't impress me and i prefer buying older stuff on vinyl anyway. the only CDs i bought recently are The Darkness coz they were promising. now it's Wolfmother but even then i bought the vinyl coz the cover art is by Frank Frazetta and deserves to be admired on a 12" sleeve. but it's a limited pressing double LP and i don't want to open it so i'll probably buy the CD of it one day anyway. unless i buy a spare LP which is quite possible :p seriously, CDs are boring. they're good for ripping songs into iTunes quick and sending them into your iPod then that's it. when i'm at home i'll play my sweet vinyls.

nitro: its balance. if u have other things to spend money on, u gotta prioritise. i myself in contrast only own a few albums. Very few. Coz it isnt really a priority

Anyway..the best thing is not to share anything (turn off uploads, dont share any folder). Theres this LimeWire Pro "free" version by the rule of opensource. I find it trustworthy. It protects the user more than LimeWire or cracked PROs. Not that LimeWire or FrostWire doesnt. But mayb its coz im on Linux.

I try my best to buy as many CDs as i can, i used to download, and bought most of the stuff i downloaded. Myspace is a great tool to listen to new and upcoming bands, and even established bands, can sample their stuff and then decide whether or not to buy it.

I first got warned when using limewire, now i use http to download shows and some music.

Also been using BT aswell, but like ona video, im downloding a say 10kbs and uploading at 25. bt is easy to track aswell..

ahh well

i do agree with bam about myspace.. that site increased and widen my music vocabulary. there are so many great unsigned bands! greece has loads of good death metal bands. check it out!

sticking to the topic, i used to do both, download and buy.. however since about 2-3 years ago. i became full-on owning albums and purchasing it. i feel most of you guys who mentioned downloading should consider buying. think about it.. back in the day, just say, 80s when thrash and NOWBHM was so big.. young bands like metallica all kept trading and issuing out demos and stuff, thus the scene then was just so bonded.. there obviously was no form of much piracy back then.. modern age (when tech advances), and everyone relies on downloading.. i feel, if you are true to the music. should buy more.. downloading is ok if you wanna check out stuff but that's what most of you say and then dont end up buying. how many of you actually really own megadeth albums! black sabbath albums! queen albums! etc etc or did you guys download? im not against downloading as i used to be one (though i bought at the same time), but i just dont like when young kids nowadays where band tees without even owning albums by the bands!

so are you a collector/hardcore fan/purchaser of the cd OR just someone killing music?

regards,
josh

piracy did exist. even when we copied our cassette and VHS tapes for friends, that's piracy. end users never ever had the right to redistribute what they have bought. it's just that now with the Internet it's on a totally different scale.

as for Selloutica, if it wasn't for bootlegs in those days, they wouldn't be who they are today. yet they have the cheek to take legal action on illegal distribution now. talk about biting the hand that feeds. but as i always say, if the music wasn't crap, people would pay for it rather than download.

i remember back in the day when you heard an awesome band, the first thought was always "i need to go buy this!!" and not "can you make a copy for me?" unless you couldn't find it in stores. but music has gotten to the point where everything is so shit that people are scared to take the chance of buying the album and not liking it. that's why they download. and most of the time, the music they download ISN'T good enough to them to make it worth paying for.

it was much better in the old days when music was good and cassettes were cheap. there wasn't much risk to try out a new artist you'd never heard before. but CDs have been the same price for the last 20 years while the music has gotten worse. record companies need to stop worrying about how to charge for downloading content and just lower the price of their bread and butter - CD sales!! artistes are still getting paid peanuts(less than $1 per album), manufacturing costs have gotten lower, yet CD prices are still relatively unchanged and record companies are still pocketing $5-7 a CD. inflation? my ass. the only thing that's inflated are the record company execs' pockets. ironically, the more they want to maintain profit margins on CD sales the more they lose out to downloaders who are sick of paying for the sub-par music they keep shoving down our throats.

Just wanna know....did they emailed you the warning? What's the content?

at this point of time, i recommend artistes, or rather bands, not to have record labels. it takes away the freedom, n most importantly, it takes away the money.

Seems it happened in september, not october sorry

I'm sure there's people who will still download till they get the warning email. I think the raid-without-warning method will be more effective.....

^ no man,no...not good...thats intruding and we have human rights...we are not a communist state...though lotsa things prove otherwise...

BUT NO!!! please...NO!! no raid-without-warning!!

I seriously think it'll come to that stage sooner or later. For now, no warning - still download

up until 2 days ago ive stopped downloading. I still have my methods that are more discreet. not P2P or anything but its probably the safest method.
