Hi all,I'm planning to get myself my first electric guitar and I'm thinking of buying the SR200 package that comes with the Sound Drive amp at SV.I was wondering if I need distortion pedals as the amp only has overdrive and I will be playing songs like blink-182 and a7x.I have some pedals in mind, the HM-200.

Most guitarists use effects to make their sounds better, but in the end it is based on personal preference. IMO I think this thread should posted in the guitar gear section.

Good choice on the Timbre. Well, I think you will need at least a decent distortion pedal to start with. The Biyang range of pedals at Standard Value are pretty good. Do check them out when you are getting your guitar there.

I have thought of the Biyang distortion pedals before but i'm not sure which one to choose as there is the ds-7,ds-8 and ds-9 from Biyang.Do you have any recommendations of good distortion pedals that are under $100?

I think i will be playing mostly punk rock once i get my electric guitar,so i guess i should try out the hm-200 and the biyang distortion pedals while i'm at SV.I will also get more information about the pedal subversion recommended and maybe try them at Davis. Thanks all for your help!

With A7X in mind, you have made all the right choices. I say go for it: Timbre, Sound Drive and HM-200 are all you need to satisfy your tonal needs, at least for now!:mrgreen:

Okay, also,I was wondering if the HM-200 pedal could give me the punk rock kind of tone. Thanks everyone again for all your help!

Alamak.. Punk rock tone? Not sure if the HM-200 can work it.. But just head to SV and try out their pedals.. Mike is friendly.. Can even ask some of the kakis there to demo if you a bit malu.. Haha

lol yeah,I wish to get those kind of tone that greenday/blink-182 uses(and of cos a7x!),guess i have to go to SV and try out or ask.

I don't think i have enough money to get myself a modded ds-1,I hope the hm-200 will be enough to fit my needs though :D

The HM-200 is quite a wicked piece of Distortion pedal. Quite versatile in genres depending on your adjustments. Yes....I would recommend you this piece!! Value for money and a damn good distortion pedal. I play Rock, Metal, Punk and Top 40's using only this though I have other distortion pedals. I feel it suits me best.

the HM-200 is a better sounding/ performing Metal Zone (purists may disagree- you have the right to... 8-) )

for something in the likes of a punk-rock genre, it's important to have a distortion unit which can cover both mild & intense settings (not necessarily feeding the heavy metal habit). in this light, Ibanez's SM-7 should be considered as well (in view of an inexpensive requirement, of course):

Now i'm more into finding a distortion pedal that covers punk and a7x lol..any idea where i can get the sm-7 and of course how much it costs?

the official Ibanez dealer is swee lee, do call them to check stock: 63367886

if memory serves me right, it's <$100 after discount...
