DIY Pedals

Hi,

I'm thinking of making my own guitar effects pedals based on schematics I found online. Although I have the circuitry part settled, I have problems finding a chassis for the pedal. For example, for the Dunlop Wah, I heard that unless you're a really good machinist, it would be next to impossible to construct the rocker pedal.

I figured that if I can get my hands on second hand parts that people throw away, maybe I can construct it without much hassle. So, anyone knows where I can find an 'effects pedal cemetary' in Singapore? It doesn't matter if it doesn't work; as long as they sell those stuff.

Thanks imcorn!

However, I prefer to buy from shops like Electronics stuff shops or flea markets (eg. Sim Lim Square and Sungei Road) or the likes...as I feel that it's more secure doing face-to-face business. It's probably a psychological thing, but I prefer it that way. So, does anyone know any shop(s) is Singapore that deals with such products?

that im not really sure.. although i will give thumps up to small bear! dealt with them twice and shipping is quite fast and efficient

rs component is more to supplying their parts to all the various local engineering industry.

Buying in small quantity is kinda expensive. But they have nice brochures with over the top multi meter that cost like an LTD guitar. Scary 8O

There are certain components that you can't really get off Sim Lim Towers though. If I doodle in some pedal making I might buy those from them.

small bear elec has most of the stuff usually. They have a wide variety of parts. Misse now brings in 3dpt switches and some casings. Check his webby out www.mrmisse.com or you could e-mail and ask fellow local pedal builders. If you really wanna make pedals. Its worth a shot but it could turn VERY EXPENSIVE

not always true. DIY can be cheaper because you are not paying them to assemble it for you.

Yeah thats true, however the initial outlay is quite a bit, especially if you're going the hi-fi route. Maybe your first pedal will cost quite a bit, but the next few probably will even out the cost. Besides, quite fun to see it working well la. :D What you intend to build? The wah or other stuff as well? ODs are quite nice to start with IMHO.

Hi everyone, thank you very much for your inputs.

Anyway, in response to a question posted by skink83 (and anyone else interested to know), I am planning to make a Kay Tremolo and a Vox Wah. Its either one or both of them, depends on supplies and time. I feel that I am half-hearted in making ODs as my amp already has an OD button. Is there a difference in the sound?

Nice stuff. Well, it depends la, if you're happy with something(the OD in this case) why change it? But there are differences then just using your amp's. Like some people use it as boosters, some as the main drive etc. Just suggested making ODs since they are probably more basic as a start (I assumed this is your first time).

Anyway good luck with the building. If it helps. I got some stuff from Farnell and RS components as well.

Thanks! I checked out OD schematics yday. Wah... Most of them are much harder than the ones I'm currently planning on doing. I guess I'm quite content with the built in OD and Distortion for now...

Thanks for the sites! There's lots of details on DIY pedals. Anyway, the Wah, I read that its hard too. However, most people say that the one that is hard is the manual wah as it takes a professional machinist to construct the rocker pedal. However, for the auto wah (which I'm planning to do), I doubt it will be any harder than the tremolo schematic...or is there something that I don't know? 8O

You can buy the wah chassis off... small bear electronics...

Yup, but its rather pricey. I think I'm gonna put the manual wah project on hold until maybe I find a cheaper one. Which ties back to what I initially requested, someplace where you can find thrown away or spoilt parts for guitar pedals (something like karang guni of guitar pedals) where you can buy for a cheap price. Some guy said that there's such places. But he is in the USA.
