Hey guys think i need some help here. I m looking for a good decent distortion pedal that can produce sounds from like Racer X, Gilbert to hard rock stuffs like GnR. Some pedals i m considering are : Landmine, Mt-2, Rocktron Silver Dragon, EHX Metal Muff with Top Boost. Any other suggestion of better ones? And can someone give me advice on such stuffs like the pros & cons of each of those pedal. My budget is around 150-250. I m using a RG370DX and pups are stock. THX LOTS! :D

hey..

get if ur budget is around 250.
get an ibanez ts7.first hand 80 bucks.
its much cheaper than a ts9,808 or any other overdrives/tubescreamers.
for distortion, most of the amt dist pedals are awesomely superb.
especially the distortion station,dt-2.
its like a sansamp gt-2 but much much more power lah.
if u wanna get the mt-2,go get the beez mod.
modded by beez of ebenex.
twice as better, more tone variations, more tight sounding.
but i highly recommend you amt pedals.

1)amt dist station
2)du hast/rammstein
3)sansamp gt-2
4)marshall shredmaster
5)marshall guvnor
6)sub decay blackstar
7)proco rat 2

u should get one of these.
dont forget a tubescreamer.
its important especially if u wanna have a tight sounding distortion.
eg pg,vai,petrucci.
thx!!!!

for a budget of $200
you have to look around for a used APA MP1
think thats what paul gilbert mainly used when with racer X
don't forget to whack a Dimarzio Tone Zone into your guitar too
that would help alot.

I'd go with Ratboy's pickup suggestion. PG used the Super Distortion back in his Racer-X days; at least the ones before he joined Mr. Big. On the Racer X reunion post-Mr. Big he used a Tone Zone.

oh. thx lots guys! that really helped. yea looking for those tight sounding distortions that gilbert mainly uses. so pedals like landmine and the silver dragon dun really work for me? and, is it worth upgrading the pups on my RG cos its MII. thx! :D

Crunchbox. Add a little more and get the Tubezone. Been using it for almost a year. Never regretted.

suckasucks: MI audio crunchbox. dont get an MT-2, thin lifeless with a crap load of fizzy gain

Bro, MT2 is one of the best high gain pedals around AFTER MODDING. Crunchbox loses to MT2 in terms of gain.

tubezone? and how much would it cost to mod the mt-2? so a tube screamer will act like a booster apart from the main distortion? landmine and silverdragon not really good for gilbert stuffs?

Different mods have different prices. Its best to try out all the pedals you've mentioned, so as to give you a clear picture of what tones you want.

TS7/9 is orginally designed to boost a tube amp. Paul gilbert use a Laney Tube amp, but changed to Marshall Vintage Modern. He uses various stacking methods like TS9DX --> OCD. Lately he replace the OCD with a AC Booster. He uses a GE7 too.

i would have gotten the tubezone if not for the simplicity of the CB. 6 knobs is too intimidating for me!

Tube Zone & Crunch box are not direct replacements, they offer different drive types. the former, despite being exceptional drive-wise, might not be of useful application to some of us.

threadstarter, i do recommend you the beez modded mt2, it can be both smooth and raw, and importantly from what you said, you wanted hard rock as well. it's able to give you overdriven as well as distorted sounds. you can go down to ebenex to try if theres one, if not perhaps ask around for soundclips. :D

wasted i should have tried modding my mt2 b4 selling it.

anyway not to change the subject but...
can anyone recommend what stacks well with a ds2 to give me a more "metal" sound?

hey threadstarter, hope you do understand the fact that isnt any magical pedal that will make one sound like their guitar hero (this has been discussed till death here). even having exactly the same setup wouldnt help. what i can reccommend you is to save up more and get a decent amp first, and at the mean time try out more dirt pedals to see which suit your needs and playing more. hope im not sounding too harsh here.
