Tonnes.. Tonnes and tonnes of guitars that have been discontinued.. Lol..
You should concentrate on what's around.. Not what is gone..

mind if i ask. will a discontinued product increase in value drastically or none at all? lets say for example a cheap ibanez pgm3.

i mean in many ads ppl seem to emphasize DISCONTINUED and it seems to be a big selling point.

selling point is one thing, whether are there any market for it, is another.

just because its discontinued, doesnt mean its good, sought after or having reason for price to shoot up drastically.

and that doesnt apply to just geetar, but most of other things in life.

if theres no one interested in your product, even if its rare, one piece in the world, its useless.

if everyone is interested in it, even if theres tough competition, people will pay for it.

demand and supply is relative, the rest just flowery words to push sale.

Discontinued HIGH END guitars WILL increase in value on discontinuation. Different story for low end guitars though. Nobody wants a 2nd hand GiO.

maybe those guitars were discontinued due to poor sales but they have some things that other guitars dont. thats why they end up being sought after.

a good example would be the Ibanez RG2027. it is a 7 string piezo equipped guitar with a mahogany body. discontined due to poor sales and sought after by many 7 string guitar players only because Ibanez does not make any more 7 string guitars with piezo FR bridges anymore.

if many 7 string guitar players want it, why the poor sales? kinda contradicting statement.

my apologies, heh. actually what I meant is that the particular 7 string guitar is sought after by players now after it has been discontinued for a few years. it was not popular at the beginning probably due to the price tag? its just an example yup.

on a side note, Ibanez discontinued many of their wonderful guitars that cannot compare to some of the ones we see today.

the appreciation of discont'd guitar prices/ after-market prices, would depend greatly on demand-supply conditions, regardless if they are low end/ high end units- Fender's Music Master model was a student affair but it commands a high price today because of collector/ vintage demand. with reference to our own SOFT buy/ sell ads, we note how the Prestige Ibanez models (eg: RG1550) are virtually non-movers even at reasonable asking prices... 8-)

I've got 2 discontinued Ibanez Talman. One with Lipsticks and the other with stacked P90s. I'm sure they're worth a bit for those who wants it. ;)

I've an Ibanez EX series which I decided to restore. Not much info on it though except that it is pre-RG.
