Dirty Pups - and i'm talking about dirty looking pickups.

Hey guys, I have an Epi LP Custom that I absolutely love. It's really nice to play, sounds great, and looks great. It's just a standard black finish with gold trimmings.

I'm not too fussy when it comes to keeping it clean, but I find that my pickup's are getting really dirty and it's really tough to clean the grit off. Does anyone else have this problem? And what do you guys do about it?

When you say grit, is it dust/dirt or oxidisation of the pickup cover (if the pickup has a nickel cover)?

i think it could be oxidation and dust. The pickup cover is one of those gold ones.

Hi, My suggestion is to live with it and just do your usual cleaning. Unless you change the pups, not much else can do, as the hardware used on epi are known to be of much lower grade than it's branded sis gibson. Thus the world apart price difference.

Anyway, it's well known that gold hardware are much harder to maintain than chromes ones, so you might want to search for replacement pups covers.

You can try polishing them. You can use any metal polish but i keep my finger cross for this. Try applying in a section that isn't obvious and see whether the polish will remove the gold plating. And i wouldn't recommend rubbing it too hard, just apply thing coat and rub softly.
