diff btween pre-gain & post-gain??

hi i would like 2 ask wads e diff btween pre-gain & post-gain on peavey amp? & if an amp has built in distortion like the gains, y do ppl need distortion pedals? thanks.

Hmmm...Pre(Before),Post(After) gain... :lol:

Cause some ppl dont like the amp dist and prefer to go with pedals..I tink PV amps have some nice dist in it..

Pre gain likely refers to the gain before the pre amp stage, and post gain is the gain after the pre amp stange but before the power amp stage. They have different characteristics.

Different distortion pedals also have different characteristics and some people prefer some to others. So you can buy distortion pedals with characters you like to put in front of the amp. Think of it as adding different "colours" to your tone.

Amps dist sound more real and less compressed.
