DESTROYED INSTRUMENTS - your stories?

I used to have this $30 yammaha casing (not exactly cheap in terms of price but it sure felt cheap) with no padding.

Leaded it against a bus-stop chair and it slid and fell bu the side. I didn't notice anything until i next took it out after the bus ride and say a small part of lacquer chipped off.. and worse still, there was an internal buzzing which I suspect was caused by a loose bracing.

After that incident, no el-cheapo (or expecsive but zero padding) type of bags for me anymore. The least was to have a Gator Delux with some kinda 1cm fur padding (at $40, it was a steal). Hard to find those bags now though.

tried to do a ritchie blackmore..

i smashed my bass was a left jnd bros.the casualty was a snapped e string cracked neck.cracked paint.miraculously it still sounded fine!i will never do taht again.it was during my younger days and reckless..did it coz we had argument with organisers who pulled te plug on us caliming it was too noisy.

My 2nd "destroyed guitar" story...

I was doing a "Haloween" night gig at a local hotel / club in 1995. Things got pretty wild with the booze, food ...people getting splattered by cake & champagne etc.... some ended up in the swimming pool ...

Anyway I was using an old beat up squier tele that night (I knew it would be one hell of a gig) ... The band was dressed up in costume of course - me as WWE's THE UNDERTAKER ...

I proceeded to "tombstone" the tele .. and progressively torture it thru out the evening ...everytime the audience egging me on for more and more.... Guitar was stepped on bashed, dragged across the stage and every imaginable "Howling" sound and other "errie effects" were coaxed out of it until the night's end ...

The tele was in bad shape - BUT someone offered me $150 and I sold it on the spot ... complete with case / strap & cheapo jack..

yeah ..brings back memories that gig ....

This thread reminds me of my first guitar, an epiphone lespaul classic, bought from soft. Well the story is something like this...
On that fateful day, i was rushing to go for my cca training. I was too lazy to put my guitar in the case after i had played it, so i just left it at the stand and rushed off for my cca training.

After training i came home only to find my guitar lying head down on the floor from the stand, i was like omfgwtfbbq , the headstock had broken due to the tension and the impact.

From that day onwards i never forget to put my guitar in the case after playing anymore!

this one is a sad story, for me.

the first bass i ever bought with my own money was a $185 samick P-bass from Davis, I remember saving up really long for it and I even skipped school on the day I had the money to go down and buy it.

one day my dad saw me at the bus stop with my girlfriend (now-ex) and thought that I had lied to him about going to tuition and had spent the night out with her instead. He walked straight home and smashed my bass. He picked it up by the neck and smashed the body against the floor 5 times until all the wood splintered out and the electronics went flying.

Turns out the girl just happened to join my tuition center by word of mouth from one of her friends, and it was all a misunderstanding. I was in fact at tuition the whole day and just happened to see her and sent her to the bus stop so she wouldn't get bothered by all the foreign workers walking around. My dad never apologized though, and to this day I have the pieces of that broken samick bass in my room.

I remember crying like a baby that day.

wow, thats sad man. I dun think my dad is going to trash my strat anytime soon cuz he bought it haha.

yeah, I still feel bad looking at it. I feel like taking out the pickups and using the neck (it's still okay because it's a bolt on) and maybe getting somebody to build a flying V or something out of it. bo lui though. haha.

Seeing that he made and mistake and that he smashed up the bass you saved up so hard for...HE SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT U A WARWICK AFTER THATT as repaCEMENT...

Unfortunately ....son vs father = only one winner / regardless ...

touched by your story bro...

wah lau eh..... dun mind me saying...your dad serial intsrument basher .....

...or he could be a closet fan of Pete Townshend, Kurt Cobain, etc...trying to satisfy his own guitar-smashing fantasies

I disapprove of guitar-smashing... My guitar is my girlfriend!!!

As you can tell, I'm far from a fan of Pete townshend or kurt cobain...

But I'm paranoid... People might touch my guitars when I'm not around and drop them.. For this reason all my guitars are kept in my closet...

mine goes like this. My brother threw the tv remote control at me and it hit me quite hard. So i got pissed and i trew a chair at him which missed and hit my ibanez that was on the stand. Fell face flat, nut and pickup switch broke. I still haven't got it fixed yet. Not sure how much it's gonna cost cause i'm a poor kid with apparently a hell lot of angst. I need anger management :)
