Delay pedal

Hi guys,

I am a novice here and am thinking of this new setup:

- VS H2O Echo Chorus
- Subdecay Blackstar
- A wah pedal

Care to recommend me which chorus is better for songs from bands switchfoot & lostprophets. Would the EHX Small Clone be better or the VS h2o chorus be better?

This is what I have in mind. Now what I need is a delay, anyone can recommend me one? Is the BOSS RV-5 Digital Reverb good enough. Or can I get something cheaper with more or less the same purpose. Hope to hear from you experienced people. Thanks! Are there any more things I need to add to get a good solo. As in maybe a boost or something?

bro, there's a difference between a delay and a reverb, a reverb just produces kinda like a slight echo of the sound coming off walls kinda thing. a delay is a repetitive sound of that you play. if you're looking for a delay, i'd say get a boss dd6 or the line6 echopark. those are some in the lower price ranges at least.

and do be careful with the VS h2o. i've had many friends complain about the sound. make sure you try it out before you buy.

erm...for delay,i would think get a Boss delay...try looking for a used one... a DD5 or DD6........if not alot of pple would reccomend the echopark from line 6........but i personally would say either a boss delay or Digidelay from Digitech......

yeah, i agree with edge. i've used both the dd6 and echopark, the echopark feels like it could break everytime i click it on. the dd6 has the standard "its not gona die on me" feel of every boss pedal. the dd6 is abit hard to find second hand though, but the dd3 isnt, theres loads of people selling a second hand dd3 on luthermusic and here in soft. depending on how much delay time you need, you can decide accordingly

Dude, make sure you try before you buy. For delay, a DD6 or DL4 Or dd20 will be more than sufficient..

Thanks a lot guys. So would your recommend a delay or is a reverb more than enough. I have not tried any. But I got recommendations from friends. Yeaps.

So which would u guys pick, the EHX Small Clone or the VS H2O? Or would u guys recommend another chorus pedal?

ttimothyy, what matters more is YOUR taste.

We can recommend something you don't like.

So YOU, tell us, what YOU want.

Ok basically, I want my sound to be something like lostprophets, yellowcard and switchfoot. For switchfoot, its more of their clean sound.

For lost prohpets and yellowcard is more of their "echo-ey" or "delay-ed" clean sounds.

And for distortions, something like these 3 bands that I just listed. Sorry I'm kinda bad at all these man.

Thanks again for the help guys!

Dude.. what guitar are you using?? What amp?

Both your guitar and amp will affect your tone greatly too.. Switchfoot and yellowcard all use les pauls..

yea i am using an epi lp.. amp is an ibanez toneblaster.

but usally when i go for jamming sessions, their either using marshall or that roland cube amp..

Hi, a friendly piece of advice for a novice is firstly that no pedal is 'better' than another. They all have different characteristics, like different apples and oranges.

So with your quest to buy a pedal, there are 2 things you should take into consideration I think.

1. Quality. Get something that won't break down in a couple of months. As a novice, I also reccomend getting something that has a good resale value. Boss typically is a safe bet.

2. Taste. Nobody will know what kind of flavour of sound you'll like. Best to try out the different ones and buy the one or ones that you really have a feel for.

ah alright. that great. and sorry i didn't mean like which is a better pedal. maybe it came out wrong. hope i haven't offended anyone. thanks!

The Maxon is better. :D

Do a search for jon foreman or the yellowcard guys pedalboard..

Google images..
then see what he has..

Aha I accept your challenge. Ibanez AD-9 is better if you want buffered bypass.

NO!

I'm just getting all this from reading Analogman's comparison of the Ibanez AD-9 and Maxon AD-9. Both are supposed to be identical but apparently due to QC differences and the type of delay chip, the Maxon is just better.
