DD3 vs DD6 HOLD function

The BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay provides a digital delay effect with outstanding quality equivalent to that of a dedicated rackmount delay unit. In addition to three delay time modes, a Delay Time control is furnished, giving you speedy, precise adjustment of delay time continuously within a range of 12.5ms to 800ms. The Hold function repeats the delay indefinitely.

The DD-6 Digital Delay is the first BOSS delay pedal to offer true stereo delay and panning effects. Features include built-in tap tempo capability and a delay/hold time of over 5 seconds (5,200ms). A new Reverse mode makes it easy to get trippy ‘60s and ‘70s-style effects, while the newly designed Warp mode creates radical delay effects on the fly.

my friend has a DD6 which can record sounds for 5 secs then repeats;

"The Hold function repeats the delay indefinitely." can someone explain what this means for the DD3?

It repeats that little riff you played during that time. Personally I don't use it much because I tend to need delay throughout the song.

The DD3's hold function is damn weird la ...
kinda like a meteronome ... :)
den you can control the tempo with the D.Time knob ...

The DD6's hold is totally different...
more like 5 sec recording ...
den can record over the recoding ...
quite cool ...

But tone wise ... i prefer the DD3 ...
function wise .... DD6 is fun...
but IMO: might as well get a DL4

actually im using a h2o. how would a h2o fare against a DD6? (pros and cons/ differences)

can someone explain to me the difference between echo and digital delay?
