D'Addario strings are a screw up!!!!

ARGH! D'Addario strings screwed up a pack I bought!

Okay, so thing is, I got a pack of D'Addario strings for my Martin D-1. I know a pack of D'addario, some may say it doesn't do enough justice for the Martin.. yea, I may agree, ESPECIALLY after today.

In case some of you didn't know, D'addario strings differentiate their strings by color balls at the end of the string..they don't pack them up separately UNLIKE OTHER BETTER STRINGS so I followed the color blindly.. BIG MISTAKE.. apparently they mixed up the balls of the 5th and 6th string.. I ended up fixing up the A string on the E and vice versa.. the worst thing was... I already trimmed the top part of it! (that's what you get when you try to string your guitar and watch TV at the same time)... I only realised when I started tuning the E string (it was awkwardly thin for an E string).

Damn, so it leaves me with no guitar to play on...

and i had to whip out my Yamaha Classical guitar.. of which... the 1st E string snapped the moment I tuned it.

Somedays just aren't guitar days...why does it have to be today! ARGH!

the manufacturer's production philosophy is wastage reduction hence the avoidance of packing each string in a separate envelope. i have come across other string brands which apply the separate envelope packaging practice but i can't say they are conclusively better than D'Addario specifically.

i've been using D'Addarios for quite some time now but they aren't the only ones i'm using, they aren't my firm favourite either but i have assigned some of my guitars to accommodate D'addarios only.

my practice when dealing with D'Addarios is this- i differentiate the gauge by squeezing the coiled up strings to feel the stiffness & arrange them accordingly, instead on relying on the coloured ball-ends.

am i defending D'Addario? of course not, they don't give me free strings by doing so here...

haha. I agree on the individually-packed strings.. (but i HAD to emphasize a point that i'm pissed about..haha. 2am in the morning, and i STILL can't get to play my guitar. darn it.

anyway, are there any strings you would recommend for a martin D series ? trying to get a real warm sound.. been up with a couple of blues lately..so any special packs i can look into? (especially new brands, i haven't been catching up with the new stuffs)

and YES i should HAVE felt the strings.. but i was so caught up with tv, i just went the easy lazy way.. darn it. haha.

I've been using d'Addario strings for more than 5 years now without any problems or issues. In fact, I just bought a box of ProSteels 10 guage... :) Easier to buy since you will get a discount for more package you buy! Heck, even my drinking glass is D'Addario!

Try Elixir strings...u won't regret.

+1 to Elixir but be informed that the price for these are quite steep... 8-)

i addition to the above, do check out:

elixir's are well worth the money... 25bucks that has lasted me close to 5 months now. the wound strings still feel almost new. amazing stuff and the tone is great!

Sometimes when it rains, it pours.

But I don't use D'addarios. I don't like them personally. So if I screwed up the strings, its me and me alone.....

Anyone tried Optima Golds? I have some on one of my Strats and they've been there for five years - still sound new.

holy crap those strings cost a bomb. but very cool looking.

5 years!?! thats longer than i've been playing guitar.

where did u get urs purchased from?

Hmmm waoh strings that can last 5 years!! No joke!!

As for my experience with d'addario acoustic strings were not bad but nothing to shout about.....but after being introduced to Everly phos bronze acoustic session strings i have never turned back!!! Decent price, fuller tone and longer lasting than the d'addario strings. Can be bought at Maestro outlets.

OMG five years?! how often do you play?
Personally I only use Everly B-52s. Started off with D'Addarios, moved to Dean Markley Blue Steels for awhile cos I felt D'Addarios didn't last as long, then finally B-52s cos the Blue Steels in recent years seem to have taken a slight dip in quality...

I bought the Optimas from overseas - Australia i think. Like any other string you got to clean them thoroughly after playing with a dry cloth to extend the life.
